I picked up a trx 2.5r for my wife's rusty and after install I tried to start and after 2 0r 3 pulls it won't pull anymore. I tried to free it using the flywheel and got the piston to go down but it is not pulling. I took the pullstart off and it seems ok. Not sure if this is just part if a new engine with a pull start. Can you use a bump box with a pull start? Need some wisdom over here!!!

Thanks

You can use a bump box on a p/start engine, but most folks remove the p/start when using a box.

Have you checked to see if it's hydrolocked? Pull the glowplug and see if it'll turn over.

The pull start won't pull even with the plug out. It pulled a couple of times and just locked up. I used a screwdriver at got it passed TDC but it still won't hardly pull and when it does the string won't recoil.

Take off the backplate and see whats up. Sounds like something went wrong somewhere. Or maybe the clutch is locked up?

I'll check the clutch tomorrow. I took the pullstart off and it seems fine.

The one way or the spring in the starter may be binding to itself. I had this happen to me but a bit of wd-40 and a few pulls fixed it real quick. Just take the cord mechanism off and give a good 3 or 4 second spray of wd-40 (it can only help since it cleans and lubes it, so be generous with the spray) and the same with the one way, and make sure to put the one way back on the right way when you're done.

my first guess would be the pull start crapped out. but you said it works fne off the truck, is the mill new? if so it may just be that tight. take the pull start off again and check the one way as well. can you turn it over with the flywheel? you may want to try heating up the mill with a blow dryer befor trying to start it. if i make it over there tomorow ill check it out.

Got it and she is ruuning great!!! I did a noob thing and didn't have a collett on and the flywheel was tightened against the engine. (Here's your sign)LOL Another problem is the ignitor I have is sorry. It won't keep the plug hot if it is moved around. New ignitor tomorrow!!Thanks for all the help!!! I'll post pics pf the new and improved rusty when th body is finished.
