Hi Guys,

I have a T-Maxx for a couple of weeks now (sold my Savage to get it). After pretty careful tuning the truck has fantastic top speed, but is kind of sluggish on acceleration. I've NEVER heard it change into top gear even though the engine sounds like it is topping out nicely. The slipper is nipped right up tight.

I'm thinking that the truck is stuck (and has been since the day I got it) in second gear. Questions:

1. Is this possible?
2. What should I do about it?

Thanks

Mike

have u attempted to adjust the shift points? was this new or used? or it could be something inside the tranny thats wrong, like the clutchs.

Do you have the manual?
It is possible. It happened with mine once. I don't know what caused it, but suddenly it started shifting into second almost instantly making the take-off sluggish, and it wouldn't downshift till it had come to a complete stop. That heated up the clutch shoes till it wouldn't move any more. I adjusted the shift point, let it cool, and it's been fine ever since. Don't adjust it more than 1/8 turn at a time. Read carefully. Too much, and the screw comes out, at which point you will have to tear down the trans to fix it.
Keep us posted.

This thread is old but what the hell. Take your tranny apart and inspect the Primary Drive Shaft along with the one way bearing that rides inside the gear on that shaft. My truck was doing that and it would sometimes take a few minutes to shift down to 1st after having been in 2nd. Turns out the one way in that gear got blown out and scratched up the Primary Shaft not allowing it to lose RPM's and shift back down.

Later.

Fixed!

The 2 speed adjustment screw had vibrated loose and was (luckily) wedged in a nook inside the tranny. Popped it back in and all OK (so far - touch wood)
