Hey for some reason my tmaxx is stuck in reverse. I original had the 2.5 engine in there then i upgraded and put the 3.3 and everything was working fine. But today i notice my truck would not go forward, only reverse and i could hear the gears making a weird sound when i was in reverse.

The 3.3 is to much for the 2.5 tranny you need to put a forward only conversion in the tranny

Yeah thats what i heard. How much does the conversion cost?

And do you think i need to open my tranny and see if any gears are stripped in there?

i have the 3.3 lined up to a 2.5 tranny and i havent noticed any problems in how it holds up.. yeah if the gears have some miles on them you might want to renew the gears to make sure less braking happens.... But the foc does make it stronger by taking out quite a few gears that are in there..... the only problem I had with the 2.5 tranny is that after a few times the screws that hold the tranny in get loose... I got inserts to hold it tight in there because as soon as it gets ALITTLE play you will go through spur gears left and right.. I think the site is

Hope this helps

You'll need to open it to install the FOC, so yeppers. You'll need to crack it. Download the break down from Traxxas and keep it handy just in case. Or take pics with your phone. I'd advise the steel gear kit also.

Thanks for the replys!
I am going to go open the tranny now and see how it is looking inside.
I will keep you guys posted.

is your shift servo working right the same thing happend on my revo not sure if the tmaxx is set up the same way. The servo was not centering its self when id shift back and forth so i got it to shift back into forward then unpluged it. the nosie mine was making was from both the servo and and the tranny from it putting pressure on the gear inside once i got it back to forward and unpluged it the nosie went away.

that sounds like a problem i had with my 3.3 when i put reverse into it so they gotta be pretty close in setup.....
another thing that will keep it from shifting is if the idle is alittle to high because it wont let the clutch disengage so it can shift because it keaps just enough presure to keap it from shifting... Ihave had that happen too.

I opened my Gearbox up today and i did not see any broken or chipped gears. So i closed it back up and put everything back together. I tryed to see if anything change and it still will only go in reverse.

I am going to make sure my shift servo is working but i am pretty sure it is.
I am also going to try to lower down my idle witch i dont think it is high but i will give that a try.

See if you can shift it by manually pushing/pulling on the shift linkage. If you can get it into forward that way, it would be an adjustment on the servo throws.

yup honestly a problem like this is just a process of alimination..... just remember everything that you try so you dont end up doing something twice.

I just wanted to let you all know that I figured out my problem.. My servo and tranny was good. The problem was i guess my shift servo was getting stuck in reverse so i had to manual put it in forward and now everything works..

But as soon as i got it to work i stripped the big spur gear. So now i got to get a new one of those. I was currently using the stock 72t spur gear should i stay with that size or get another size?

Just keep the same size thats on there no reason to change your gearing right now.

that depends on if you liked how it went before and if you want more torque or more top..... if you are running the black tranny these will save you time and money in the long run , because after a few times of pullin the tranny in and out the holes get alittle loose and you will go through a few spurs.

these will keap the tranny so you can always keap it tight that is if you dont want to go with an aluminum case or a new plastic case everytime it stripps out.. I use them and they are great

Yeah i am going to keep the same size because i thought about it.. I never got it tuned 100%. I got it tuned but not 100%.

I dont get where that little brass insert goes.. Does it just help keep everything tight?

Get a break down of the whole assembly so you don't miss anything I'm not sure what insert your talking about.

What that does is you drill the holes were the mounting screws on the case are then put the inserts in. That way the screws are in that insert which hold it better than being in the plastic itself.:D

That insert expands when the screw is put in.

Thanks! I understand how it goes now :)
