As many Members here have converted their MAXXes to Big Bore motors, I am curious whether anyone has ever had the "single speed dilema" once they've undertaken this conversion.

A buddy of mine upgraded to the Sirio .18 (3.0) motor and now his MAXX will not shift into 2nd gear.
He has adjusted the shift screw, but this has not helped at all.

He does not have the foward only conversion and my belief is that the internal clutch could be slipping due to the extra grunt provided by the Sirio .18 motor.

Anyone experienced this problem and found a cure?

I have a Sirio .18 en route to me from the U.S. and I'm just looking for a cure to my amigo's current problem and to any future problems I may experience once I've done the Sirio conversion

Thanks

Drop reverse and put in a Forward Only Conversion.

This will more than likely square away and 'internal clutch' issues. Not to mention, its worth taking a look inside the tranny right about now.

I would do the FOC conversion.
The transmission should shift without the FOC. You may have to take it apart and see if the adjustment mechanism has jammed the clutch. If you are going to got through all that you might as well add the FOC while its apart.

How many turns out does your friend have the 2 speed tranny adjusted to? When you take the tranny apart, check to see if the metal arm that swings out on the 2 speed mech is functional. It may have broken or it may just have some crud in it....give it a good cleaning. Actually, give the whole unit a cleaning, the ball, spring and all, and then put a couple of drops of after run oil on it and rub it all around to lube it up a bit.
Hope that helps ya!
