I was having the same type of issue only it wouldn't shift out of first. The problem i had was that the primary clutch inside the tranny went bad and woulnd't adjust any more.

But i suggest trying to adjust your shift point so it may release the spring tension in the clutch and see if thats the problem for the simple fact that its kind of a long process to replace the clutch, you have to take the tranny off the rig, tear the tranny apart and take the gears apart to

I replaced the clutches in 5 trannys so far and that cost I dont think ever went above $15.00 And I am not sure how long they took me. I think 30 mins to complete and have running. You would have to ask RevoRob His is one of the ones that i fixed.
The parts for a transmission are very cheap.
No 30 for a complete trans is not bad.

Yeah it's most likely the 2nd gear clutch (primary) but make sure your one way bearing in the first gear isn't slipping. That can also cause an instant shift into 2nd making it seem like it's it's a second gear clutch problem. Make sure you use some very fine steel wool on the shaft where that one-way goes and clean the one way thoroughly with nitro spray. Lastly one small drop of mobil one oil on the one way works well. OH...Don't forget that small washer behind the 1st and 2nd gearset.
