Anyone using the STS engines?
I’m looking at getting a rear exhaust .12 for bashing and non competitive racing for my 2nd NTC3.



I can’t seem to find much user info good or bad in this line of mills. I do see that they make several different versions of the .12, one is a low end 3 port, then a race level 3 port and an outlaw 5 port. All of them seem to be priced well under a “comparable” mill of different brands.

Anyone have any input?

I have a STS .28 in my truggy. For the money they are by far the best engine I have ever owned. Starts right up and will idle all day before it is even broke in. Easy to tune. When the engines in my other rc's go I will replace them with STS engines. here is their website http://www.stsrc.com.tw/

I have an older STS .12 DS3 I believe..It ran good but it needs a P/S now.It was fast as the other engines I have owned besides the Sirio.
 
Go to <racernine.com> he is the distributor for STS engines here in the US. STS engines are very good and affordable. My son runs the STS 21 TEAM with CH-RACING mods in his 1/8 scale buggies and out-runs the high-end Italians in his class.
 
I recall Plaidfish as having run the STS but it lost it's compression before it hit a gallon. Might want to PM him and see what was up with that experience.
 
I will do just that.
It’s interesting because they are a less expensive mill then others. The interesting part to me is that I haven’t seen a lot of “Press” on them. Usually bad news travels fast in our circles yet I have heard relatively little about the STS. Does this mean they are good but no one is saying anything? LOL Just in the market for a mid level .12 mill and ran across their product.

Edit: I did a search and Plaidfish's engine was a Fantom .27, not an STS. My apologies for the misinformation.

I have ran Novarossi,Rossi,RB,OS and Sirio.It was easy to tune and stayed tuned.I rarely had to touch the needles.

Look like someone's personal page? He races XTM and pretty well known on their forum. Here is a link to the .12. http://www.racernine.com/sts12.html Don't know a damn thing about STS, but what I have read. So far it has been good.
 
The link was down last night but back up today. I did contact STS and found the distributor. I have contacted him and am looking into it.

I'm eager to find out how well thay work. Everyone seems to have a high opinion of them but info is still sparse at best. I'm keeping an open mind.
 
I have two STS .28's. They run well. i have never had a problem with tuning...ever. Not sure about the other models, but the 28's have a short pull start for my liking, but other than that..a great bargain.
 
I run an STS D28M .28 in my inferno buggy for bashing, and it makes unbelievable power and holds a tune very well. However, I had a series of teething problems with my unit which are worth mentioning for a balanced opinion. I received a sealed brand new unit. The first time I put a glow plug in, the threading in the head button stripped liked butter requiring a replacement. Once this was achieved, I couldn't get the engine to idle and it was discovered it had faulty bearings which were repaired under warranty. Then the carb refuses to close completely which I still haven't been able to fix resulting in a high idle temp which I always havew to keep an eye on.

So my opinion - fast engines, great price but let me down on reliability.
 
Not yet. I did run 3 different units yesterday a .12 regular, a .12 race, and a .28. I have to say the ran very well. One of the guys at the LHS has them in all his RSs. They put it down! Add in the price and it seems to be a great value.
 
Ok well in the mean time keep me posted about everything I might pick one up later. For now I've picked up a picco 28 from RuchRC (you know, doing my part to suppor the site ;) ). Though I would like to try one of those STS's out sometime, even if the carbs suck - I've got a nice OS carb I could throw on there.

I race with them. Damn fine engines.i've got a .12 and the d21T in my buggy. I'm actually hoping my sponsor gets to be an official dealer by next week. :D

PM me if you would like, i'm sure I could get you a engine.
