Wow..I have striped a few spur gears in my day..but never to the level that your showing..Just a suggestion..When your Savage stops moving..dont keep trying to gas it..it's done..I do notice that your missing one clutch shoe and the other pins that the clutch shoes sit on look to have moved in a bit..So right off the bat I have a few suggestions, first..get new clutch shoes and new clutch bearings, My guess is bearing failure because it looks like the spur gear melted (due to extremely high heat) and this would explain the missing clutch shoe also, I would also check to make sure you have enough end play on the clutch bell, If you dont shim this properly you will have premature bearing failure, check the clutch bell for any damage (if their is any damage or noticeable wear replace) check gear mesh and re adjust if necessary..this should stop any more problems. You should check your clutch bell every time you use your Savage..a little PM can save you time and money..

Question.

What type Clutchbell are you using?

Also, Have you checked for proper gear mesh?

Last, How tight is your slipper set?

Looks like the clutch overheated, hard to tell, it could have overheated from the gear mesh being off. Hard to tell from here.
Make sure the clutch nut is tight and loc-tited.
Install some new shoes with 0.9mm springs
The HPI carbon shoes will slip a lot under hard bashing on grass or pavement, try an aluminum shoe if you drive on those surfaces.
New clutch bearings too.
Check that the engine mount is not cracked, the mount plate is not bent and that all the screws in the truck are tight.
There are 2 screws that secure the tranny to the engine mount plate, if they are loose it will kill your gear mesh. They get overlooked easily because you have to turn the truck upside down to accesss them.

what combination are you using.from the pick seems like you are using a 47t spur gear. proper combination is 16t cb or a 17t cb . also check the cb, if there is a lot of movement, i mean forward and back ward. not too sure.

i have a 47t spur and a 17t cb i have checked for prober gear mesh and tightined the spur like it says in the book. i will have to replace everything on it cause the plastic off the spur has melted on to everything i was thinking of upgradeing to a steel spur, aluminum clutch shoe and a heavy duty racing cb is this a good idea

The steel spur gear is a good idea after you learn how to make the plastic spur gears last. The metal spur gears just mask the underlying problem to an extent. If your clutch is installed properly and the gear mesh is correct, that 4 dollar plastic spur will last for gallons.
If and when you get a steel spur just be sure you get a hardened steel clutchbell to match. The HD ones from HPI are not hardened and will strip if ran with a metal spur.

Holy Crap Thats Like Melted Badly Never Seen The B4.

ok i have bought my new clutch shoe and cb all i need now is my spur gear but i can't remember if u get more teeth will it go faster or slower can anyone help

thxs.

More teeth= more power and acceleration, less top end.

Less teeth= higher top end, less acceleration.

(I think):constipat

what type of spurgear were u using stock or non if non stock then when u replaced the old one did u get the proper clutch shoe? for example I'm running on a 47 tooth and 16 or 17 clutch shoe i forgot which one. also make sure when u put the gear on u should have the spurgear loose enough so that it slips.

it was all stock. the spur gear was a 47t and the current cb is a 17t cb with aluminum shoes

i want more speed but don't want to lose to much low end power. i still want to get up and go wht gear setting should i use

17/47 is good for most .28 engines, you can try 18/47 and see if you pick up some top end speed, it won't be much, maybe 2mph if the engine has enough power to handle the gearing. The HPI .28s don't rev very high, especially with the HPI Polished pipe. It is a low to mid range pipe. You can expect your clutch to wear a lot faster with 18/47 gearing too. My clutches lasted about 40% longer with 17/47 vs 18/47 gearing.
You want more speed put something like a Mach 427 or a LRP Z28, SH 28P6 and finally the Picco .28 The Picco would be the strongest of the bunch and with the right pipe just plain nasty. Those engines turn more RPMs and will give you roughly a 4-5 mph gain on topend over the stock engine.
Dropping the weight of the truck helps tons too. Lighter wheels and tires are one of the biggest improvements you can make.
