i stripped the rear differential in my tmaxx. i figured i could just take off the front diff. and put it in the back. thats what i did and i left the front one off. i figured it would work. now my tmaxx wont move. does anyone know if its bc i took off the front diff? is there a way to fix this without buying new diff gears? ill settle for 2wd. i just want it to run. i dont have the money for new diff. gears.
 
When you swap it from the front, you have to flip it upside down i think, so it will be turning the right way.
 
Getting the diffs in backwards is an easy mistake made by many.

The front will work in the back no problem.

Standing behind the truck looking down on it, the two course thread, button head screws that hold the plastic cases together should be on the right.

it revs like the spur is stripped or gears in the tranny are stripped. it was moving better b4 with stripped diff

the button head screws are facing the right side. do you think maybe bc i removed the front diff its causing the tranny to not send power to the wheels?
 
No, it is a straight shaft going to the front and rear, there is no "slippage" possible like the diffs. Is the front diff stripped too? Or is the slipper too loose? Or is the forward/reverse not engaged fully?
 
its all in tact, all i did was remove both diffs. and i put the front diff in the back. i left the front diff off.now it just revs. i was thinking it maybe had something to do with the front diff being off
 
You put all the driveshafts in right? I have personally not put the drive shaft in the center in.... i dont know where my mind was.....
 
Basically, what you have done is turned it into a Sport Max. I think you should check your drive shafts just to make sure you remembered to reinstall the pin. It's got a straight rod, with a threaded shoulder, and an allen head like a grub screw. It needs to be set flush so it doesn't bind.
It secures the shaft to the diff. There's also one to each axle.
It might sound stupid, but it's a tiny little part that can make the difference.
Start the truck, then hold it up and watch the drive line to see what's turning and what's not. You might need someone to hold the rear wheels, since they will probably still turn without a load on them.
 
grub screws are all in there, with the wheels on the ground while looking under the truck. reving the motor nothing spins. with the wheels off the ground the drivetrain starts to engage.when i was hunting for the stripped diff problem i took apart the tranny it was fine.i then realized the problem was the diff. so i ran the truck around blipping the throttle. do you think doing that could have stripped tranny gears.the way its acting it seems like tranny gears are stripped.
 
When you took the tranny apart, did you put the forward and reverse primary gears in backwards? Did you tighten the slipper?
 
Let's go from one end to the other.
The engine runs. The clutch bell spins under throttle.
The spur gear spins. Can you hold the spur gear and throttle it?
Is the slipper clutch tight? Tighten it all the way down, and back it out 1/2 turn.
If all that checks out, and the drive train underneath has checked out, you need to open the tranny again. If everything is fine before the trans and after it, the problem is inside it.

Also, as someone mentioned, check the forward/reverse, to make sure it's not caught in the middle.

I'm so stumped, everything checks out. i opened the tranny and all the gears are fine.now I'm working on a new problem, when i turned over the open tranny a pin fell out. i have no idea where it came from. why did i pick this hobby lol
 
AHHH!!! i think the pin goes in between the forward and reverse primary gears where they slide apart!!! Not the gears that are in the drum, the the gears driving those!
 
Check all the parts and alignments against the exploded view in your manual. There's nothing more frustrating than putting it all back together and still having a problem.
 
heres a pic of the pin, i have no clue where it goes and i can't find it on the exploded view
