i am having probs with my nitro stampede i striped a spur gear so i replaced it and now i put 1/8 tank through it and there is damage that is done to the gear i tried to get them as close together as possible but I'm still haveing probs

You may be getting them too close, there should be a little "play" between the gears, you dont want them completely tight.

i think they were too losse i got them a little closer

i will see what happens but i will use this thread if its not right

use the paper trick, after you set it run a piece of paper thru them and back out, if it looks like an accordion when it comes out without tearing the paper.

thats what it did just now i reset it it came out like an acordeian but didnt rip so i think i should be good it is drivable but there is damage to the gear

For gear mesh I use 3 methods. First I eyeball it and make sure there is a small space between the two gears, then I hold one gear and rock the other back and forth. You shoul get a bit of movement out of it. Then if I'm still not sure I'll do the paper trick. Gear meshing seems like a simple thing, but it actually takes a while to get right most of the time. Usually now I just set the mesh by eye and feel, and I don't even need the paper. In your case use the paper first then look at it, and then rock the gears to see what a good mesh feels like.
