today while bashing my gs storm pro i had something happen that was totally repairiable (sp?) but still was kinda odd to me. my front right suspension arm outer hindge pin (the one that goes thru the a-arm and the caster/steering block) came out complety after a very mild nose dive, maybe jsut 3 feet of air at only mild speed. nothing was broken or sheared, the hindge pin was still secured by the set screw in the castor block...but it jsut flexed enough for the pin to come out of the a-arm. has anyone had this happen to there gs storm? i was able to repair it in minutes..but still i feel that it happend way to easily.

BTW my xtm xterminator was pushed even farther today, the bmx track has been rebuilt and there are some huge wendy whoppers style (probably 8 feet high ramp) doubles with a long sweeping berm leading up to them for speed. that sent my buggy stupid high. everytime i go out to run i find the xtm buggy to be much more durable than the storm.

as for the storm I'm going to find some long bolts that fit all the way thru the suspension arm, and use a nylon lock nut to hold it all toghether. i think that will be much better than the open ended set screw to pin style the storm uses now to hold the caster blocks.

That does sound a little odd... but you never know, it could have been JUST the right way for that to happen. Even though at low speeds and it looking good, it's still like 7lbs of force with speed behind it putting all stress on usually one or two parts. I do agree with you though, that seems a little odd to be breaking over that. That would annoy me too.

That's really weird. Could the arm be cracked a little, so that it allowed the arm to flex enough for the pin to come out?

i looked at the arm in all the places it could crack and all the places were it seems it wouldnt crack. didnt find anything..all the parts looked fine. even trying to bend the arm myself it felt real solid. like was2fast said it was probably jsut the right angle/force on that part of the suspension making it come apart like that...some kind of shaolin monk break the middle brick type thing. anyhow...i used 3mm cap screws and some lock nuts on all four corners replacing the stock hindge pins held in with set screws...it wont give that way anymore.

Try putting a dab on silicon where the pin slides in if the problem continues

Hey that's a good idea, about using the screws woth lock nuts indead of the pins with set screws.

I've had mine slide out a bit, and I ended up replacing the C hubs because the set screw just wasn't holding anymore. It's a really tiny set screw and they strip quite easily. If you turn them in just a little bit too much, it's over.

You know what's funny, on my car... I landed hard as hell (PRP Swift) and it popped the ball out of the knuckle on the suspension up front, and the lower A-arm actually split just barely enough to let the hinge pin bust through it. The a-arm is fine... obviously where the two molded pieces are bonded, it isn't there anymore, but I did a quick field fix, bent the hinge pin back, put everything back together and I haven't had a problem since. It's funny how sometimes these things happen yet you can land a million times harder and not ever have a problem. Crazy.
