I got my Losi 8ight yesterday (RTR)!! So stoked. I got it for $600 out the door at a LHS! Great price. :yes:

I cannot see spending the big $ on the race roller version. I do not race in competition. Just for fun. And right out of the box these are great! Lots of fun. Just have to make sure you red lock tight your axle lock screws. My friend lost 2 axles the first day and one driveline the second day.
 
Well, I had to replace both rear axles, the dog bones came out. Other than that no problems! Super fun and a great buggy! Just make to to follow all the directions. Make to to adjust the end points of travel for the servos!
 
I am thinking on getting the 8 series myself. Looking at the RTR version, the towers look to be the first thing I would upgrade to the Pro versions. They look thin.

Something else I would get is the quick change engine mount for it.

Yes the towers doo look thin, but unless you are going to do heavy high jumping they seem to be holding upp fine. I did change the rear one in my 8T already, it was starting to bend.

A good upgrade also is the front hinge pins and upgraded braces. Mine just broke by getting t-boned on a turn by a truggy. I could not believe it. So I upgraded it so it would not happen again.

Also make sure you get the cvd boots from a a main. So you do not have to worry about the set screws coming out.

I will post up pics. Sorry. I did not think anyone was interseted in a Losi 8. Glad to see someone is. :)

I have driven the 8T ad it drives strong. I want one for sure.What do you mean about the CVD boots helping the set screws coming out. What Set screw?
 
The set screw for the drivelines at the diffs. There is a real small set screw that sits in the axle joint. There is a big notation in the instructions that come with the vehicle about it. My friend who bought one just before me had his front one come out. When it comes out the driveline comes apart and the vehicle stops in its tracks.

If you go into the post in this same 1/8th buggy section on the "8b axles!!" post you will see a picture of what I am talking about. I do not know how to paste in into this respone or I would have. SOrry.

Brain fart... I understand. I use heatshrink on the axles to "capture"the set screw.

My 8 was screaming on Tuesday. I was working and tuned the best I have ever had it! It was so much fun! Then.....the clutch bearing went out, well actually the bolt backed out from the bell and took out the bearings.
 
loose cvd screws...clutch bell scrw backing out...sounds like you need to get aquainted with Loc-tite there my man...use blue...red is for things you don't ever want to take apart..LOL
 
Yeah tell me about it. I am loctiting the bolts that come loose, but until they do I do not know which ones to do until they have an issue. LOL. I just got all the bugs worked out and then the clutch bell bolt comes loose on me. Oh well, I ordered new parts from A Main already, it will give me a project to do on this rainy weekend here. :)
 
So I got my parts from A Main and replaced clutch bell, but I noticed that the gear on the bell does not match great with the spur gear. On a more closer inspection I found my spur gear flopping around! That is why it chewed up the bell gear so quickly and that is why my clutch bearing when out so quickly! I took the center diff out and found that the "spacer" that goes on the front bearing of the center diff missing all together!!:mad: Either

1) It was never there to begin with (RTR verison)

or

2) It disinigrated.

The second one seems more unlikely do to there is no sign of it at all. It has only been out 2 1/2 long day runs.

I got the new parts from the LHS today, but I also ordered the "upgraded aluminum bearing spacer" that Losi sells for the center diff front bearing from A Main. Hopefull this will not happen again.

I reccomend that whoever owns a 8b get one and install it. :yes:
 
Got my spacer for the center diff installed and WOW what a difference! The center diff now has no slop in it at all. None what so ever. Nice. :)

It rained last weekend so I did not get a chance to drive it yet, I am sure I am going to have to play with the brake bias because I adjusted it alot to compensate when it had so much slop.
 
just a note to everyone gettting an RTR.....as soon as you get it home to your bench RIP THE F*#Ker APART.....nut and bolt the WHOLE rig....yes this defeats the purpose of getting an RTR but as you can see from fudd here, RTR does not always mean "ready" to run......

and Mr. Fudd I'd just go ahead and loc-tite em all..any metal to metal will need it....if the screw bites into plastic it should be good but I'd throw a drop o blue in there as well....
 
Well, in all fairness, this time they just did not install the spacer all together! LOL. Most the screws go into plastic on this particular RTR. But I get what you are saying.

The only screws that are into metal are the engine mounts, clutch bell and the driveline set screws. Other than that there are some bolts with nylock nuts on them. They are fine.

All the issues have been parts issues and one loose bolt to the bell. All the dog bones that came apart and the missing spacer.

I would definately agree that a kit is always the way to go. It is just so much more expresive to start. $600 vs $1200
