My neighbor has a stock T-Maxx 2.5. He removed the retaining ring from the top of the air cleaner when he cleaned the foam element. Now the top retaining ring will not seat back on the air cleaner, the foam keeps pushing the retaining ring off. The ring does not snap on and it does not have a pressure fit. He asked me to take a look at it and I could not see what the problem was. How is that top ring supposed to fit on the stock T-Maxx air cleaner? I looked at it and I did not see anything broken.

Are you talking about the ziptie or he actual part where the foam goes into?

If it is the part where the foam goes into and has the mesh screen. It will go in its just a bitch to get back in.

I am talking about the top ring with the mesh screen. It fits it, it just pops right back out.

if thats the case and the part with the mesh screen is the part and not the actual cup and screen then your filter is done. I would reccommend getting a Motorsaver as said above. Its a great investment. Just pick up some decnt air filter oil. I use Associated.

My screen had poped off before. No need for a new one just use some CA glue.

Those screens aren't supposed to come off the top of the cleaner. Your friend should have pulled the element through the narrow end where the rubber elbow fit.

The MotorSaver filters are a good replacement but the screen can be glued. Just make sure the parts are CLEAN. Gluing dirty parts are one thing but gluing parts that are dirty and oily are an exercise in futility.

Thanks for the replies. The kid said he that did replace the filter through the back and as he pushed the foam element back in the screen popped off. He does not have any money to buy a MotorSaver so I'll CA the screen back on for him.

Yah the CA worked for me and has lasted a while, Hope you get it for him.

Wdavid is right the screen should not be removed in the manual it tells you to remove it from the bottom. Just ca it back leave the foam out when gluing. :hammer:
