Need some more input. Its got to be an RTR, like stadium trucks but will probably be doing a lot of bashing so for now and to start it looks like an MT. Has got to be as trouble free as I don't want to be fiddlin with the settings all the time. You know, set and forget and DRIVE the wheels off it. I'm impressed with the savage 21 & 25 but the Nitro RS4MT has really caught my eye. Lastly this is for a guy who has never had an RC vehicle. There is a track about a 40 minute drive so it probably won't be long befor I try some informal racin and the RS4 looks like the right choice. I'm lookin forward to all the input. If you are looking for a nitro that is trouble free, forget it. There is a lot of tinkering that goes into these vehicles. If you want something more simple look at an electric. That is what i started with then i went to nitro after i learned a little bit more about them. But a set it and forget it nitro, there is no such thing
 
i just wanted to add that its defintely worth the tinkering. after a while it will become second nature and you will just do it.
if you wanna get a truck to just bash hardcore and never think about racing, get an MT. higher ground clearance, bigger wheels, bigger shocks, etc. look into the savage .21 rtr and the SS kit.
if you wanna bash but also want to do some racing, get a stadium truck like the rc10gt or xxx-nt. they both come in kit and rtr versions.
the hpi rs4 mt isnt really an mt and isnt really an st. its confused. I'm not sure if it can race with regular stadium trucks, and if it can you might not be able to keep up.
 
Nitro engines aren't really that hard to learn how to tune. After you get one tuned up, the only time you need to adjust it is if something changes, like outside temperatures, gearing, fuel types, etc.

You will have a lot less trouble with a stadium truck 2 wd. there is a lot less to go wrong. On the other hand 4wd trucks will do a lot more off road bashing than a 2wd.

You will need to make up your mind then look for the best od class.
 
yes i have found that when i first got my nitro truck it was a little nerve rackin but after a little while u get pretty good at it.

The only way to get "smart" in this hobby is to dive right in, get dirty, and tinker away. You will find that you learn more in this hobby from the bad things that happen to your RC than you do when things are running perfectly. The bashers mantra (quoting Pirata) "Bash, break, fix, repeat" is about as correct as you can get.

As for what RTR to get, there are a lot to choose from out there. From the sound of it, you are set on getting an MT. I would highly recommend getting yourself an HPI Savage. The SS kit would give you a better intro into the hobby by making you build your truck, but the RTR is a great place to start if you just want to "gas and go."

Just realize that RTR means minimal work to get going. The nitro RTRs are not truly ready to run right out of the box. You need to break in the engine, install minor failsafe equipment (like air filters, fuel filters, put the radio stuff together, etc.)

As someone suggested, if you want minimal work, then go for the electrics. You won't have nearly the fun you would with a nitro, but they are still good to play with.
