Sorry to beat a dead horse but i'm taking another approach here. It's been discussed here and everywhere how many turns for this needle and what temp for that but as we all know conditions and engines vary so i'd like to ask in a different way.

For each question I'd like to know how an engine might perform on a typical sunny day, with a typical engine which is broken in and reached operating temp. What might i see under the conditions rich, perfect, and too lean? Let's take an example. my buggy is stationary and I gun it:

how quick should it respond?
what would i see as it reached top speed?
how much smoke do i want?
what sounds am i listening for?
how high should it idle?

Thanks. Any other comments/suggestions appreciated.

- Repsonse should be immediate.
- If this is a qualiy engine, you shoud see a dot on the horizon.
- A nice healthy belch tapering down to a steady stream of light to hazey smoke from the pipe.
- This is pipe and engine dependent, but the sound should be a steady hum to a nice healthy whine.
- Idle height is not really critical. Set it so that the engine stays running and the vehicle stays stationary. Some like to set it low...others like it set just below the threshhold where the vehicle will move on its own.

Ok you are leaving us a lil dry here with facts. Factors to think of entail weather conditions. type of plug, fuel. Even more so engine type! Each time you adjust needles try giving it a lap and monitor your engine temp. Do some research on the pipe you want. Each are designed for a specific part in the power band. I suggest that you stay away from the Dual exhaust ( home made type deal seen on ebay ) Or the so called "OUTLAW" aren't much better.

As far as tuning. The engine never be able to get top speed right from a fresh start. If it does its a good sign that it is lean and will die once it is warmed up enough.
