anyone have this problem... my buddy has this problem with his ss and i also have had it happen to my .25 a couple times... dont know if we should split the tranny cases and see whats goen on in there? just wondering if anyone has had this problem and what they did if anything to fix it, thanks alot!

ARe you sure you are in second gear? Try accelerating slow to see if you change to second gear.

yeah its sticking in second gear. when you try to accelerate is kinda bogs and accelerates slow till the rpms come up then it just accelerates through till tops speed.

Try to spin the spur by hand with the motor off. When you spin it counter clockwise the truck should move. When you spin it clockwise the spur should easily free wheel and the truck should not move.

Does your spur do this?

i dont know how this would figure out if your in second gear or not? let me know. thanks

When you rotate counter-clockwise the one-way bearing (86087) in the first gear cog (44T) should lock and the spur should push the truck. This is the normal direction of engine rotation.

On the other hand when you rotate CLOCKWISE the following should happen:

* The one-way bearing (86087) in the first gear cog (44T) should slip.

* The normal bearing (B085) in the second gear cog (39T) should slip.

* The arm in the second gear clutch hub (86091) should be retracted and it should not be contacting the engagement pin (86094) in the second gear cog (39T).

* Basically everything should free wheel very easily when you spin clockwise

If you feel resistance when spinning clockwise then either your spur to clutch bell mesh is bad or something is hanging up inside the transmission (probably second gear). If one of the screws backs out of the second gear clutch hub it will catch the second gear cog and lock the transmission in second.

I have had it happen to every tranny I ever owned, and thats about 6. I now do the scond screw mod and loctite the set screw on the shift mechizem and keep one of them in the box as the still seem to be the weak link for me..

SIX TRANNY's!!! holy crap! what do you do to have so many!!?

If you break that many you are setting the shift point too late usually. The older Savage models had a cheap al. 2nd gear pawl that bends easily. Get a newer X transmission, set it to shift within 2 seconds of punching the throttle and it will hold up fine. Only seriously modded engines have the strength to break these parts when they are setup properly.
