I've been enjoying my RS4 Evo but my MT2 just can't handle what I really want to do, so I picked up a new Savage...

The RTR now comes with the four gear diff upgrade and cam type servo saver in the box and ready to install, but since this is my first BIG truck what else can you guys recommend for the typical basher?

My LHS suggested the dual disc brake setup and I've heard a tank guard is a good idea. What else (besides the obvious like a failsafe)...

Thanks! I've got the early Bronco body coming too, pics once I shoot it...

id say the uniflow tank mod https://www.rcnitrotalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28676&page=3&highlight=uniflow+mod
post #33

will help with the savage leaning out at half tank & a 6v receiver pack also the linkage mod in 1 bad sti's post will give better throttle and braking control exspessialy if you get the dual brake setup ...and if you really want to break the bank you could get a rc solutions roll cage will protect your engine etc..and looks bad ass but its about $110

and congrats on the savage your gonna love it

Id say a good roll cage, dual disk brakes, high torque metal gear steering servo, such as the hitec 645.

My advise would be to get the Lunsford Turnbuckle set that come with the ball ends too along with aluminum knuckles for the rear only. I also believe this center skid served me well. I don't agree on the tank guard as I have yet to break a tank although I know some people claim they broke several. Not sure if it is what protects my tank but I put about an 1/8" of fuel tubing on the posts that hold the tank before i put the tank on and it does not seem to smack around as much.

I did the following:

Throttle linkage Mod
Steering servo linkage Mod
Spider Diff mod F/R
Dual Disc Mod ( was on already)
Titanium linkages
S-25 Modded by a great Member: Markallen
upgraded to Ripple pipe till I get the OS T2050

doing tomorrow:
Uniflow Mod , Good friend Sweetdiesel has a great description on how he did it HERE

waiting to do:
RCS cage

LOL I did the Nova towers and engine plate. I am looking for another set of TVP's to try out.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. And for not barking "use the search"... It was 1am and I was making a quick post before going to bed. This am when I started to read replies I was like "duh, I should have searched first!"

These are all good ideas. I've got the cam servo and four gear diff already in the box. I like the projects on dampening the tank and the Uniflow mod. Might work on the others as time and money allow.

I noticed no one mentioned the reverse module. Not a big deal? My 12 year old son (who's the main carnage creator on the MT2) was asking me about it. We do a lot of on road and we both like the idea of reverse.

Reverse is cool to have but for some that have been in the hobby, regverse is not necessary like it isn't in 1/8th scale buggies. Removing it helps free up the tranny and lose some weight.. this options is upto you. Just need the reverse moduule and anextra servo. If your receiver is 2 channels then you will need one with 3 channels.

yeah i forgot to mention that ..i have reverse as well i havent noticed or heard about any real adverse efects having reverse (like the tmaxx) when your talking about a 12# truck i didnt mind the minimal wieght the reverse adds its nice to be able to back out of a jam

like jon2 mentioned i dont know if your radio is 2 or 3 chanel..but you need a 3 channel
also i dont know if you like the idea of dissambleing your truck but you will have to dissasemble it a fair amount to install the reverse module in the tranny ...its not very hard though

Thanks guys, but the RTR radio is a three channel, so it would be just the reverse module and servo...

Not a problem taking it down to the deck. I've done it with my RS4 Evo and my MT2 before. Just have to learn a slightly different build style. I figure I'm going to put the four gear diffs in with silicone oil and the cam servo saver before it even sees the dirt, so I might as well do the reverse module too while it's apart.

Thanks again...

I used to run the reverse I realized I only used it only a handful of times. So I removed it to save a little weight from the extra servo and gears.

Yup I removed it as I got used to running my 1/8 th scale and no reverse so I figure why would I need it on a MT?

I have reverse in my modified Savage SS and I like it. My reverse module has been in the truck for about 5 gallons now and it still works perfectly. It is constructed of all metal gears and it outlasted the stock plastic second gear inside my transmission. The module adds no drag in forward and a very slight drag in reverse. I find it useful.
