Ok I am fairly new to the RC world and bought a pair of Savage X RTR trucks last year, pretty much for back yard play. They have been running great until well today. On one of my trucks I am noticing a loss in radio range and believe the steering sero is going. The servo is making a grinding noise and the wheels twitch when you turn them as well as being slow to respond or return to center. My trucks are all stock (figured I would upgrade as I break the parts) and I am still learning so not to sure where to go or what to do now.
WOW I'M SUCH A NOOB!!!

Any thoughts or suggestions would be great!

So I decided to take the truck apart to give it a good cleaning and regrease. While doing so I opened up the steering servo and it looks like rice in there, only a few teeth left on each gear, I am very surprised it would turn at all! So now my new question is What should I replace it with? Still trying to figure out why I have a drastic loss in range of use, (only have about 50-75 Ft of use now) like I loss the signal between the transmitter and receiver.
SO AGAIN ANY HELP either question or both!

for way better turning id reccomend a hitec digital servo, 5645mg, fits in there nice, you have to modify the horn it comes with (the blue one) so that the hole is big enough to screw to the wrest of the turning assembly.

ebay page expired, for turning servo, if your looking for upgrades most servos should do, if you want better steering for the savage, you should focus on the servos toque.

Hitec HS-645MG for steering

can I use the same for throttle? if not what do you recommend

I need inexpensive upgrades from the plasic CR*P so I can get my truck up and running

645 is only 133oz/in of torque. If you're going to spend the cash, go for the AE 200 or so oz/in torque servo. Savages are big trucks, youll need a nice servo in there.
