I have a used t-maxx 2.5. When I try to start it it will turn the engine over for a couple of seconds then just spin. it will eventually catch just enough for it to start but it takes a long time of hitting the button and stopping. is this just signs of a used engine or is something wrong with the sarter.

Hmm does the engine turn over or is the motor on the EZ start blown? BTW, are you using the EZstart still or pullstart?Clarify please.

had the same problem with a traxxas sport nitro stadium truck.........before i gave it to my son & got a savy i cut the ground wire loose from the engine mount, pulled the ezstart plug wire & just used a plain glow starter........works faster, easier & better........dont have to recharge the ezstart battery as often either........

Your One Way Bearing is worn or dirty. Remove the EZ Start and inspect the starter shaft (shaft the bearing spins on) for scoring, pitting, discoloration, or other signs of damage. Clean the bearing with nitro cleaner and lubricate with Mobil 1 synthetic oil (shake off excess - don't install the bearing sopping with oil - it should just have a thin film of oil). Install on the shaft (if the shaft is in good shape) with the text on the inner bearing race facing toward the engine and then install the EZ Start. The bearing should grab and turn over the engine just fine. If the bearing fails again the simply purchase a new bearing and starter shaft if the shaft is damaged. Retail is about $22 for the bearing and I'm not sure about the shaft. You may be able to save $5 or so by getting the bearing off eBay. I had this EXACT problem and it took a new bearing to remedy it.

thanks for the info. i tried using the glow plug ignitor and it did take off sooner. but it still spins. i didn't know anything about this one'way bearing so i think ill have to check into that.

The bearing is located inside the EZ Start gearbox bolted to the back of your engine. If you remove the three hex screws and pull the assy from the engine, you'll find it securely lodged inside a tan circular flange on the main starter gear. You can remove it with a bit of force by using the L shaped end of a hex key. Since it has been slipping for so long, I'd advise you to buy a new one instead of wasting your time cleaning, assembling, and disassembling all over again when the bearing fails repeatedly. Just be sure to check the starter shaft and if it shows the slightest bit of wear to replace it, too.
