Help. I have had my savage 25 about 1 month now and i have broken in the engine and tuned the HSN and LSN.

The last few times i have come to start it, it takes along time to start it. The engine will jut turn over like the glow igniter isn't attached, but i checked the igniter and it is fully charged. I checked the glow plug and it too is good. Eventually the engine will start to sound as it will start but it still takes another 3 or 4 attempts to start it. Once the engine has started it revs and the truck starts moving. The idle screw is set to 2mm like to book says, but the cluch engages and the truck starts moving. I have moved the idle screw so it is less than 1 mm and this seems to keep the truck still. This can't be doing the engine any good can it? What can i do to stop ths happening, has it got something to do with the clutch?.

I have reset the LSN and HSN to factory settings ready to start tuning the needles again. Can you please tell me the best way to tune thee needles and how to do it.

I have been waiting too long to go bashing in this truck can anyone help me i am desperate.:hammer:

well i dont have a savage and i can't realy ansewr you question about the starting but with the idle screw it should be set an 1mm. as what i am told.

Is it cold where you are at? Colder temps would have an effect as to how difficult it is going to be in starting the Savage (or any nitro at that)..........what kind of fuel are you useing and what is the nitro % (10%, 20% 30%)??? Do you have an in line fuel filter? Have you checked for any air leaks? There could be one of several reasons you are having a hard time starting the truck.

Yeah it is quite cold at the moment. I am using 20% nitro fuel which is what was suggested by HPI. I haven't checked for air leaks but i though since the truck started eventually that i didn't need to.

Not very experienced here but,it sounds like your engine is out of fuel....try holding your finger over the exhaust port and watch the fuel line going into the carb,if you still have the clear fuel lines......see any bubbles?....if so ,are they moving towards the carb when you turn the engine over?.....good luck...RCR

I had a somewhat similar problem as you described originally. After taking off the clutch bell I discovered the piece of crap Hot Bodies clutch shoe had broken and was wedged just right to have the clutch engaging all the time. I couldn't get the darn thing to idle and sit still at all until I discovered the problem. So check your clutch.

flooded

it may be flooded take out the glow plug turn it on its side then crank it a few times then put the plug back in and it should start right up
thats my 2 cents

It honestly just sounds like it's too cold. What sort of temperature is it where your savage is stored. I have the same problem with mine. I have had to resort to using a hair dryer on the head for about three minutes. You also may try leaving your truck inside somewhere where it won't get you in trouble if you have a siginificant other. This may make all the difference in the world and it's free to try. Later

Try what Zipperfish mentioned about the clutch. I had the same exact experience as he did. What was happening with mine was -I pump the trigger and it goes with a bit of hesitation, but would not idle. When I opened my clutch bell, one of them fell off immediately. The other piece was still OK. Good luck. :cheerful:
