hi guys

i picked up my starterbox today. and wanted to run my car.
but when i tried to start it, the wheel of the starterbox gets jamed when i push my car on it.
it seems the piston gets jamed inside cause of the space between the piston and the wall is so tight. i know this is suppose to be. but it makes my starterbox jam the wheel.

any ideas on this?

A couple of things. What starter box do u have? 1)It could be ur batteries are weak. 2) Move the flywheel and and try it. 3) The starterbox may not have sufficient torque to starter her up.

its a carson starterbox. bright yellow. iam powering it with my reall car accu and the fly wheel does move hard when the piston is on top but i can stil get it over the point where it goes down again.

loosten your glow plug, and let your starter box get to full power before you bump your car on it. make sure the starter wheel isn't getting caught up on your chasis too.

You also didn't say what engine you're trying to start. Big blocks are harder to start because of the high compression on them so loosening the glow plug may help, especially if it's a new engine.

Other than that, you may be aligning the engine wrong. Sometimes just a little misalignment of the flywheel on the starter wheel will cause it to bog down and completely stop. Have you placed the pegs on yet? If not try finding the position where it will turn the engine. After that mark and position the posts so that you will have the proper alignment all the time. This is crucial, especially if you will be racing and need to restart your car. It also saves headaches when trying to start.

Don't worry, it's all part of the learning curve. Took me the better part of 2 nights to get mine postioned correctly when I first used a starter box.

thnx driver. nice reply. all nice replys tho :smoke:

i got a 12 hpi pro engine (really tight)

pegs? you mean those black things you screw on top of it? should that be direcly under the chassis? or a side of it, so the chassis is stil directly on the starterbox? if i place them directly under the chassis then the flywheel wont even make contact with the starterbox wheel. so i now got one (peg) aside of the chassis making sure its in the right possition so the starterbox makes contact with the chassis.

The pegs are aligned to the side of the chassis and rear. If placed underneath, then you won't hit the starter wheel.

On my OFNA box, I have 4. 2 are pegs shaped like cones, I place these on the sides and 2 look like buttons so I place these are the rear of the car to align where the back should rest. As far as tightness ... I have a Rody Roem X12 5port turbo and it's got a lot of compression as well. Try starting a BigBlock then you'll really know what tight is!

Remember to try to get the best alignment. You'll love it later. All I have to do with my NTC3 is sit it down and press. When I'm at the track, anyone can come and pit for me and not have to worry about aligning the car if it flames out during a pit. It sits perfectly on the box.

 thnx man

iam gonna try tomorrow. was a rainy day today
hope i get it done then :wasted:

Warm the engine up with a hairdryer first. This will expand the sleeve and reduce the pinch on a new or cold engine.

start off at bottom dead center so it gets a running start and loosen the glow plug!!
