I've searched around and found a little info. but might as well ask. When I start my .21 it runs for about 3-5 seconds then stalls. It isn't the glow plug and I set the needles back to factory. I think it might be to rich cause it just stops. It doesn't accelerate right before it turns off. If anyone has any ideas on what I could do to get this running I'd appreciate it.

if it doesn't idle, the lsn might need to be leaned. If it does, but stalls on any kind of acceleration, the LSN might be too rich (engine loading up), the HSN is probably too rich also.

One thing to try is get it started, and at an idle pinch the fuel line going to the carb. If it sits there and idles for a while (like 5-10 seconds), then speeds up and then dies, the LSN is definately too rich. Lean the LSN and HSN a little at a time until it only takes 2-3 seconds to die when the line is pinched. Once you get it to that point, you should be able to tune it better. But watch your temps and sneak up on it slowly. Otherwise you might burn up your engine. And DO NOT touch the mid range needle.

Whitt...

Pinch where on the line? I pinched like an inch before the carb and it stalls out almost immediatly. But it seems that it might be running rich cause it throws out a good amount of smoke.

This might be a stupid question but it will make a big difference on how I can get my savage to run. the manual says factory needle settings are 3 1/4 turns. Now are these turns on the screws 180 degree turns or 360 degree turns.

I'm just saying cause I've gotten my truck to run but like i said it seems to be idleing very high. even tho I have the idle at like 1 mm open.

This truck is just a smorgese borg of problems. and it's my first R/C nitro car.

You're pinchin' the right spot.

And if it's blowin' smoke you know your HSN isn't too lean. With the throttle open the LSN is performing no function whatsoever.

It sounds like your LSN might be a bit too lean. You might have your idle set high to compensate for this. I'd try richening it up a tad. It should die in a couple seconds on the pinch test but not immediately.

And the factory means 360° turns.

Dude, first nitro and it's a savage. The 1/8th's are a bit pickier sometimes, but keep at it.

It doesn't matter too much where ya pinch it, but you got it in about the right spot.

When it says 3 turns out, that's 3 complete (360) turns. Just to clarify.

What fuel are you running? The .21's need at leaste 20% nitro to operate.

One onther thing I would suggest is take the thing to your local hobby shop, or track, and get an experienced nitro driver to take the needles out and check for clogs in there. If you have never done this, get help. if you take the needles out and bugger them up putting it back together, the carb is screwed and it'll never run right. this is something the you just have to see done, it's really difficult to explain it effectively. If there is some junk or rubber o ring shavings in the HSN or fuel collar it'll make the engine act cranky even when the needles are set to factory. This is not uncommon, and is usually the first thing experienced drivers check when getting a new engine.

From your last post, it sounds like the LSN is lean, but smoking means that it's rich. Confusing, but solvable. Check for crud in the HSN, and make sure you have the right fuel.
