hey everyone, I'm new to Nitro R/C, and to this forum, so sorry if this sounds like a stupid question

my question is, if the car stalls when you apply throttle, does this mean the car is running to rich? it starts fine, sounds good, but when i put it on the ground and go to take off, it just dies. i dont understand why its doing it now though, i had the mixture good a few days ago, now its like someone has come along and played with all the needles.

cheers

First question i have is did you break in your rig properly? Second is what kind of rig are we talking about?

If you let it idel then it'll load up with fuel and when you stab the throttle it'll die. I would go to factory settings then start over.

First off welcome...

Second I am in agreement with konz. Has this been broken in? What engine is it? What Rig is it? Ambient temp? Breaking in with a load or do you have it propped up?

In line with the idle idea- my car was doing this when my low speed mixture was too rich. If I let it idle for too long it would bog down/die when I punched the throttle.

yea, its just dies when i punch it. if i applied throttle slowly and gradually, it eventually took off very well. its a hobao GPX4, and yes, it has been broken in by idleing through the first 3 or 4 tanks of break in fuel, then for the next few tanks it was all tedious throtteling, moving fairly slowly as to make sure i didnt blow the engine up. not sure about tempterature, i dont have a temp gun. but i can tell you that it wasn't unbearable to touch after a ten minute run around...

thanks for the help guys

Ok. Well I would tell you to invest in a temp gun because it could save lots of money down the road. Secondly it sounds like it might be running a little rich, are you getting a good bit of smoke out of the exhaust or not?
I know how you said that it was like someone messed with all the needles, had you adjusted them to where you had a good tune and a good trail of smoke.

yes from where it was previously tuned, it had a good trail of smoke, so it wasn't lean at all. it was still idleing a bit high, but nothing to really worry about i didn't think.

as of when i posted this thread, there was more smoke coming out the exaust than there was previously when i felt it was tuned well

how much do temp guns retail for roughly? US currency is fine, i can convert it to aussie dollar

Good temp gun is roughly $30 us for a good one I like the mini ones that look like a pen as they are easy to get close to the plug.

THS racing has neat temp gun screw driver that I have my eye on...but it s like $69 use...the ultimate tuning tool...;)

Good luck....tuning is an art form....I am still finger painting.

Yea like Talone said it would be like 25-30 bucks and I would say you are running a little rich if you are having more smoke come out, so try to lean it out and see what happens. Just don't lean it out too much, better to run a little rich.

thanks for the help guys, its easter weekend tomorrow so I'm gonna take it for a good spin. ill let you know know if i have more problems

if it idles for ages it fills up with fuel and will just die when you stab the throttle. What i do is leave the glow start on and gradually increase the throttle. You should see lots of fuel (liquid form) spit out of the exhaust.. Then take the glow start off and have fun.

note- sorry if that was already said as i havn't read posts here (i know i should just havn't got time at the minuite)
