I have a savage 25 with a 4.6engin. I can not keep it running for the life of me. And when i do finley get it running good it wont shift so then i start moving needles and it wont stay running. an ideas :surrender

i would get it running and then mess with the shift points on the tranny.

You can't just go 'moving' needles randomly. There is a proper balance to achieve the proper tune.
Reset them to factory, then tell us what it does.

when it is set to factory it runs without stalling. But dose not shift.
I havent messed with the shiftpoints yet when i look in the i see 2 setscrews witch one and witch way do i turn it

Low and high speed needles, counterclockwise to richen and clockwise to lean them.

There's a rubber plug on the trans. Pop it open and slowly rotate the trans shaft till you see 2 hex grub screws. One is directly in the center and locks to the shaft, and the one that's off center will adjust the shift point.
Imagine that grub screw is a clock, and it's now noon. You want an earlier shift? Back it counter clockwise to 11, then try it out. Now that you know how and where to do it, you can fine tune it to your liking. Don't mess with it other than the slight adjustments. You can back it all the way out and then you'll have to open the trans to get it back.
If you get good take off, and good top end then your carb needles are pretty close to where they should be. When it's warmed up and shifting, let us know how it's behaving.

i have come to notice anouther problem, I dont know if it has anything to do with it not changeing gears or not. the spur gear just spins. I'm going to replace the pad.

Before you replace it, tighten it all the way down, then back it off 1/16 to 1/8. That could be the only reason it's not shifting. After tightening it up, if you still have that problem, then you'll have to replace the pad.

Or just sand the pad a bit to take off the ''shinnyness'', after tightening it and still doesn't help, thats what i do and it last a bit longer. just my 2 cent...

ok fellas it is running sweet now. Th only issue i have now is just befor it shifts in to 2nd the motor stumbles and then it shifts. Not shure why. How do i get bor punch off the line. i want to do some wellies. Thanks for all your help.

Once its broken in definetly adjust the idle screw. So do this while pressing on the breaks turn the idle screw 1/8 increments and you will see a difference its not going to die down. Then you can start adjusting the high speed needle. Adjust it so that it shifts to second smotthly. Then after thats done if need be if the truck bogs from a dead stop adjust the low speed with 1/8 increments. Then you will definetly see a difference. Remeber dont go over 270 degrees.
Good luck keep us posted
