Does anyone know of any other easy ways to get the spur gear out besides taking the engine or tranny out?
Ps:I have a revo.

raze do you take your engine out when you put a new air filter on?? He doesn't have to take the mill out to change spur gears. Loosen the 4 bolts that hold your mill in place and slide it back. Then put your spur on, then slide the engine back forward, adjust it to the new spur and tighten it down.

i recently shelled my spur gear and I'm replacing with a rpm steel one. i went ahead and took my engine out mainly for cleaning reasons. Not really that hard to do anyway and its a good opportunity to really give it a good thorough cleaning. i had planned on trying to change the gear out without removing it but noticed all the crap packed up underneath it and now she sparkles again.

I can't say I have heard of the sliding you motor out of the way but i got changing spur gears down to a science. I can take the mill out and get the new one on, reinstall my mill and be back on the track in 15 minutes tops. I'm going to have to try sliding my mill over though sounds easer. But back to the post, you dont have to take you tranny out just take the mill out.

It can be a pain cause I have the ez start still. the electric motor gets in the way so you need to take off the cooling head. Also Eulsifer that can ruin your tranny with a steel sg.

so i shouldnt use a steel spur gear? if i have the tension set correctly on my slipper clutch (start loose then tighten as needed) i should be ok right?

15 minute job

1. disconnect the servo horn and the brake linkages.
2. turn the truck upside down
3. remove the 4 bolts holding your center diff and the diff cover
3a. disconect the drivetrain by remove the pins connecting the dif - both ends (2 grub screws)
4. gently lifte the diff out of the fron side
5. remove the spur gear - (also check the clutch spur and its bearings for wear - it shouldnt move more than 0.05mm) If it does you should remve the circlip and replace or insert a teflon washer. Avoid using metal washer here.
6. put it back together
7. check the distance between the spur and clutch are correct.

To do this if you are not aware. Very simple. Loosen the outer adjustment bolt on your block mount. this allows inward and outward movement. Put a folded piect pf paper into the mesh of the gears and hold together tigh the tighten the bolt firmly whilst holding. remove the paper by pulling it out and you are done.

Steele sg's ruin the tranny. The reason the sg strips because that breakes before you ruin the tranny. I justy did it the old fashoned take the engine out methodand I'm fine.

I just pulled the for tranny screw and lifted the one half out enough to get the gear, it was really easy. Thinking back I could have do it without removing any servo horns.

this man is half way wrong!!

where did u hear this from?
i really want to know right now, or are you just saying this because u know what your talking about?

aha, alrighty then

Elusifer, go ahead and run a steel spur if you feel like it, the only way its going to "ruin your tranny" is if you tighten your slippr down all the way and take away all the slippage, the slippage in the slipper is what saves your drive line and drive line components!

I'm not sure what you guys do to your slippers, but i have been running a robinson racing spur gear and cb combo for 3 gallons now on 2 differant engines, and I'm yet to strip a gear, break.strip a diff, or twist any of my drive shafts. the spur gear is not your guy's problem. you got somethin else goin on, maybe you got the whimp revo's or something. not sure.
