spur gear question

i ordered a new 72t spur gear off ebay. listing said the following:CONDITION-New

TRAXXAS 4910 2.5 T-MAXX TRANSMISSION slipper assembly with 72 tooth spur gear.


You will receive all items as shown.

This was removed from a new 4910 T-Maxx transmission.

it showed up today and the spur gear is PLASTIC not metal. i have never seen or used a plastic spur gear, my question is:

do plastic spur gears come new on 4910 tmaxx transmission? and second has anybody used one?

my fear is that with a steel clutch bell gear this thing will be stripped in no time. Help !!!!!!!

All of the stock spur gears are plastic, after you get good at setting the mesh, a plastic gear will last gallons. I've never run a metal spur and have no plans to.

thanks for the info! i will give this one a try and see how long it lasts ! i have been using robinson racing (metal gears) for a long time on my maxx, and have never had a problem, i picked this one up as a spare, but i have never used a plastic one!

I have went through 2 since I started running my maxx again. My problem was that I didnt place the motor close enough and I grid the teeth off the spur. If you put the engine were it needs to be it should be good.

Before you run the plastic gear, check your CB really well. The metal spur gears are known to "sharpen" CBs, and a sharp steel CB will eat a plastic spur gear real quick and in a hurry.
