Hey guys just wondering if i should get a steel spur gear or a plastic one. i shredded the plastic one to pieces yesterday and thought about getting a steel one so it wouldnt shred. but if i do get the steel one will i just end up shredding the plastic tranny gears instead??

The first thing you need to do is find out why you're killing spur gears. Check your mesh and check you slipper as well. Once you figure out why the spurs are stripping, then you can go to a steel spur gear. The common reasons why a spur gear goes is your engine mount screws came loose, your slipper is not adjusted right or your tranny came loose some how. Hope this helps, Steve.

yea one of the bolts that holds the engine on came off and two out of the other 3 were lose, also i was driving it really hard in deep snow with the engine wide open the whole time, I'm not surprised that it stripped. I'm just wondering is the steel one really worth the 60 bucks or should i just stick with the 9 dollar plastic one?

60 bucks for a metal spur gear? you should only be spending that much if you need the hardened clutch bell as well, and even then its not 60.

here are some links to cheaper metal spurs

No need for a metal spur gear, i have run stock spur gears on my rigs forever, if you go steel you may as well beef up the entire trans, because you will break it, i have never seen a situation to need a stell spur gear. Waste of Money IMO...

I've ran a steel spur gear on my tmaxx 1.5 for a long time without upgrading the tranny eventhough I did later on with no issues.

alright thanks guys, I'm just going to stick with the stock spur gear. cheaper to replace and i dont have to risk ruining the trans
