How do you know wne your mesh is perfect!!

i went threw 3 spur gears already, and I'm ticked!!!! how the :hammer: do you know when its perfect, cuz i guess my savages mesh has to be PERFECT! just ask the 3 striped spur gears sticking out of my wall, they tell you.

thanks-

some people like to run a strip of paper through the mesh. I'm not sure what type though. you just cut a strip of paper and put the end between the two gears. push the gears together so the strip gets in the mesh. tighten down you're engine mount a little and pull the paper through the mesh. It should come out looking like an accordian and the mesh should be very smooth with very little play. personally, I just do it by feel but that's just my parogative. Happy Tuning!

Yeah, do what Lessen said using a dollar bill to set ur mesh..works great

Also make sure your engine mounts are very tight, and you use locktite blue on them.

If you do not, it will get just loose enough to loose proper mesh with the engine running, but not loose enough for you to move it by hand, or be able to tell it is loose.

Locktite is your friend!

Ack almost forgot be sure to check the bolts that mount the engine to the mount too, not just the mount to chassis.

As a matter of fact check to make sure everything is tight.

99% of my gear mesh problems were because of what I listed below
#1 Slipper turned way too tight. No slip=lots of burned spurs.
#2 loose engine mount
#3 loose bolts holding engin to engine mount
#4 loose tranny resulting in good mesh/bad mesh depending on throttle
#5 chassis flex.
#6 Loose or worn clutch bell bearings.

So check your mesh, but also everything that is attached to either the spur of the Clutch bell
Hope it helps , let us know

By the way.. aside from the spur, how are you liking the savage? I bet it's a blast compaered to our XTM"s it was for me :D

My friends hate me because I still run the stock spur gear that came with my SS kit that i bought LAST YEAR and it does not show any signs of wear. No lie. I never even adjusted the slipper - it is still set from the factory. Friends of mine bought 25RTRs this summer and each one of them blew at least 5 spurs.

I check gear mesg by feel. The spur and clutch bell should have very little back-and-forth play (hold the CB and rock the spur back and forth), but the spur should spin freely and smoothly. Use locktite on the engine mount bolts.
I personally find that the paper trick leaves too much play in the gears, which is why I do it by feel.

I also do it by feel but the paper will help you get a feel for it. Use blue lined paper and do as is above. If you have been doing that then make sure to see lykans post!

yea, thanks. the savage is awesome by the way so great i love it its the best thing to ever happen to me, ill try meshing better, thanks

I'm thinking about getting a rotto start for my xtm, lol

GO HPI !!!
