I was looking through the parts list on my SS kit and noticed that they use a bushing on the spur gear. Seems odd to me since there are bearings everywhere else. I and going to use a bearing instead. I am assuming someone else has done this. Any problems? Seems to me the bushing would wear out pretty quick.

the only time that bushing moves is when your slipper clutch is spinning. it should last a long time.

Behold a roached bushing.

This is my 2nd one that I have roached. Make sure you have a few extras stashed in your field box. I lost a spur gear because of this one. I didn't notice the play until it was too late. :(

Has anyone put a bearing in its place?

Rob

I don't know if you would want to put a bearing there. You're cranking down pretty hard on it. I have a .26 and mine is almost locked down since I was burning more slippers then losing the gear itself. McVickj, that's pretty interesting wear on your bushing. After 4 or 5 spurs with the same bushing, mine doesn't show wear. Yours looks like the washer is really grinding into it. Is your lock nut coming loose all the time~? Or is that the bushing for the clutchbell~?

This is the bushing for the clutchbell. It is part number 86121. It sits against the outside clutchbell bearing. It is on page 45 of the manual.

I thought that what it looked like, and those do wear fast. I believe he's talking about part B072, the bushing that's inside the spur gear, but I could be wrong.

If mcvickj is talking about a bushing/spacer that go's between the clutchbell and the screw that go's into the crankshaft that holds it down I just made my own washer that is thick enough to go between them. I used a washer that came with my Fantom engines and ground it down to not be obtrusive to the teeth on the clutchbell and it works great. I wouldn't waste time with that bushing on the clutchbell. Now if we are talking about the one on the spur gear if it is getting stripped than that looks like the original washer that is supposed to go on it isn't the right one. That washer is made to fit around the output shaft of the transmission where the spur rides.

This is what I am talking about. :)

The bushing that sits on the outside. Between the outer bearing and the screw to hold the bell on.

I have, no probs so far.

Thanks Error, I knew there had to be someone that had done it. I have an extra bearing that is the same size so I am going to put it in during my build.

Good deal. Be sure to use a couple washers on the spring side so that it only contacts the inner race of the bearing. I had one bushing actually melt the spur because of friction from ithe slipper not being tight enough.

Will do. Thanks again.
