I bought an integy 3 shoe clutch conversion for my maxx. This one has three aluminum shoes and did not come with any springs. The guys at the hobby store said to use the stock wrap around spring.Yesterday i noticed the clutch bell was stuck,so i took it apart and the spring was mangled.I put it back together with no spring and seems to work ok.So am i supposed to have a spring or not?Is the three composite shoe design better,it looks like it has 3 seperate springs.-thanks in advance:)

a three shoe clutch does not use the wrap around. it uses individual springs on each shoe. you can use it without, but the springs will let the engine rev higher before engaging and allow for faster launches.

you can see the springs in this pic

you can't get different thickness of springs to change the timing on the clutch. a thicker heavier spring will let you get more rpm before it engages, and it will bite and launch harder. a smaller weaker spring will let it engage earlier, and will me a smoother transition.

my 3 piece integy with seperate springs has been working quite well. I have been blowing out clutch bell bearings but I am pretty sure this is unrelated to the clutch itself.
