My wife wants to get my my first nitro for xmas, I am torn between the T-maxx and the sportmaxx as a few people have told me the Sportmaxx seems to be a bit faster and overall more fun to drive.

With Traxxas running a special now I can get the Sportmaxx and a free upgrade to the two speed with reverse kit, BUT I have read here that this kit is somtimes a pita to get working which is not what I want to deal with on my first car.

Thanks for any feedback you may have.

I would suggest just going with the T-Maxx from the start. The Sportmaxx is more geared for racing and the T-Maxx is for bashing. I guess it depends on what you are going to do. If I remember correctly the Sportmaxx doesn't have 4 wheel drive. The T-Maxx does.

yes same here id get the t-maxx as the it well be much easier, and also problably more fun, to drive than a sportmaxx.

How so? I mean I know nothing about these things as of yet and notice they are a little more.. Not going to do anything big with it like huge jumps or anything prob just bring it out on the field and maybe to the track every once in a while.

Also notice the savage is a little more and there are two versions the SS and normal savage

Oh nevermind if you are going to race the t-maxx is a better racer. the sportmaxx is a 2wd monstertruck wich has no class for racing. If you wanted 2wd then get a stadium truck.

i have an "older" t-maxx and there are a gazillion parts for it. i dont have the widemaxx setup on it, and it started fourwheeldrive but i took the front drive line out and added a spool the rear, basicly its a spooled sportmaxx witha .18. +2speed and reverse.

I would go w/the tmaxx.. this is my first nitro truck to they are alot of fun and there are tons up hop ups (and stock parts if you dont know how to drive when you first get it like me) and theyare pretty easy to wrench on. Not sure about the savage cause I do not have one of those.. .

I would get the T-maxx too. Like bashmaster said, There are a "gazillion" aftermarket stuff and almost every single hobby shop will have a lot of parts for it. Especially the old one. For example I went to my lhs and I saw the "older" EZ start control box in two places and I didn't see the newer 2.5 EZ start at all.

okihost,

I've owned both the T-Maxx and the Savage 21 and I personally perfere the Savage. I find the savage much easier to work on, I've broken less things on the savage and as you've mentioned there are a few flavors of the savage, the newest being the savage 25 which has a nice set of hop-ups already on it along with a nice large engine. You could also go with the savage SS which will also include a lot of hop-ups, but we'll have to put it together. For a newbie this would be a GREAT learning eperience for you.

Don't get me wrong the T-Maxx is a nice truck and if you're dead set on the Maxx then at least get the full blown T-Maxx and not the sport-maxx. It never fails, you get the smaller model thinking it would suit you, only to find you want more. As mentioned and you'll quickly notice at just about any LHS there are a ton of T-Maxx hop-ups and after-market parts.
