So yesterday while i was working on the maxx i decided to spool the front differential. I have had a spool in the rear of my brushless emaxx and it was ok, but i LOVE IT in the front. It allows me to riippp through turns and also helps keep the front end down. When coming out of turn it just pulls me right through it. I run the same track around my house and there is definatly improves my performance. It also helps me clear obstacles that were too big for the stock diff. If anyone else out there is like me, and runs solely offroad(dirt, gravel, etc), I strongly recommend it!!!:first_place:

there are a few ways to lock ur diff. I've tried a couple of em. 1st u can open up the diff, get inside the spider gears in there, and stuff it packed full of silly putty. I've tried this method and it works good, it will also give u slightly more play than putting in a spool. I have also just bought the spool and I like this more than the putty. the putty will eventually break down and make a mess and stop working. the spool is a more permanent route. once u put in the spool there is far less diff maintenance. The only thing about the spool is that u have to make sure u get the correct one for ur model. some dumb@$$ at my lhs sold me the wrong one for my 3.3 and it didnt fit. so i have a useless spool.

If u wanna rip donuts and drift around corners, lock the back. If u wanna rip through turns and increase lap time, lock the front. If done both and i personally prefer the front, by far.

I don't know that silly putty's a good method. I know that it doesn't work in rc crawlers, from reading around rccrawler.com, and a T-Maxx has a lot more power going into the diffs.

Cheers bud . Wats silly putty ? And what about if you lock both diffs ?

It's a kid's toy, distributed by Crayola. You can make shapes, bounce it, etc.

I've wanted to try locking both diffs. I might put a second spool in soon in my next maintenance tear down, just to see what it does.

Another permanent method is by filling the diff with hot glue. Its not reversable without buying new parts. just open your diff, and quickly pump in some hot glue and assemble quickly.

chemical metal will lock it up, try thick diff oil and mix it with sawdust is a quick way o do it

In my opinion, diff spools are a waste of money and time due to busted drive shafts, stripped tranny gears and busted ring and pinions! Thats my experience anyways.

So is hitting huge jumps or running in snow or rain, but ppl still do it. It's part of the game, go have fun, then fix ur truck. I've ran a locked diff in my emaxx for years with NOT A SINGLE problem. And I beat the hell outta my cars

I've got the thick heavy duty axles on the back so gunna lock the back 1st and c how i get on . Thanks for suggestions will let you no how i get on .

I like it when I'm on gravel and loose dirt and stuff and start to get a drift going but then pulls back in coz of the slip I'm still waitin on my pull start so the engine is out . And haven't gone into work so gunna pull the diff out today c wat i can jam in there lol .

I like the putty idea because if u don't like it, u can just take it back out. Opposed to the gluegun idea which ruins ur parts

Locking the front diff is gona screw with the handling it will steer like crap!:whhooo:PS. get ready to twist some axles !

Locked the rear's yesterday but with very limited slip coz jump quite alot . Got my pull start and one way bearing . And beat on it hard works real good now to c how long i can get a drift going for lol . Have the real thick axles on my rear so think il be ok .

I never really drive on road really . Only to try stuff out before i go to the bash spot .

the only time they are a problem on tar is when you spin around and give it some it creates alot of stress from the hookup. some people have good luck with them and some dont... The ones that dont drive on pavement quite abit more then the people that have good luck.. from what I have gathered from this subject because I was thinking about doin it to one of my maxx's to try it out. oh and alot of turns on pavement because the inside wheel is going to be the same speed as the outside tire.... Think about a real car if you lock the difs in it around a corner they howl and tire skips accross the pavement basicaly.
