Does anyone make one? I've seen a few on the internet but i wanna make sure that they do exist before i buy something. I havent taken the diff apart so i dont know what one should look like.

Yes they do exist but It will look like a broken transmission and driveshafts. In the rest of the truck. This is me...(I have 3 Savys kinda know the truck) I would put the heaviest diff oil I can find in it like 150K instead of a locker unless you never plan on driving anything but a straight line.

Take joey's advice and get a heavy diff oil. I put a diif spool in my old tmaxx and in the first run I stripped a wheel hex and snapped a drive shaft! I can't imagine the destruction that would result with the power of the 4.6! Bad idea

I ran a spool in my Picco .21 converted Maxx and never broke anything except the bodies from being upside down. The Maxx had forward only, RRP parts and Big Joes putting the power to the ground. I'm still gonna put one in it, who makes one or who would you recommend?

I have no advice for you than other than Ebay. I think they are a bad idea. Only ran it once in my T-max is was disaster. So sorry can't be of help there. They make an RC handle like a Tyco toy which is why they put them in hobby grade RCs.

I appreciate the warning. I'm tired of seeing it stuck because one wheel on each side is spinning. If it proves too costly then ill take it out. :)

Heavy diff oil will give you some heavy diff action but with the benefit of actually HAVING a differential. Better on the whole truck really.

I believe that anybody that has run a locker without experiencing drivetrain problems had a bad tune, a loose slipper or simply good luck. Or had a real beefy drivetrain as stated above. Regardless, they absolutely kill the handling capabilities. I ran a locker in my E Maxx for awhile. It definitely doubles the turning radius. Lockers are for dragsters, pullers and crawlers.

I ran a locker for a long time in my Savage with the lower powered stock .25. It's was great with only a broken dogbone here and there. With a bigger engine it ain't so fun. I switched to heavy diff oil as mentioned,it still acts like a locker in most areas but has some give to save diffs.

well, what locker did you use? even tho I'm reconsidering running one

yeah like in a real car locker good at dragstrip... bad at road course. if you insist on a locker like Racer 1966 said its very easy just to make one, however, you may want an extra diff because i have a feeling the locker won't stay in there long after you replace a drive shaft for the umpteenth time you want it out.

I thought I would revamp this topic..

Vertigo Performance was the first company to make a spool for the HPI Savage then after several years we dropped spools from our product line.

We are relaunching spools under the name Monster Lockers.. (You will see we have a spool for the Losi 5ive on the front page of this site)
We are a few weeks away from relaunching our line up of spools..
Monster Locker Spools replace the plastic diff cup, bearings and gears, all that is needed are the out drive shafts and ring gear from your existing diff. Photo below shows a Savage Spool mounted to the gears and out drive shafts.
