Spinning wheels

we need an update, what happened at the hobby shop today?

It seems they are closed on Monday. So I called Traxxas and sat on hold....and sat..and sat then hung up after 15 min.
I figure it can wait until today. My sons got something coming out of every hole in his body. I'll say no more on that.
They open today at 11. I'll let you know.

hmmmm...I spoke briefly to my son this morning. He added some information that he had left out before. Initially he called me outside to show me how the front wheels were spinning like crazy while the back hardly moved. I had company at the time so I told him to shut it down and go through the post procedures and I would look at it later. Which I did. And to my untrained eye it looked fine. But this morning he told me that the 2 front and 1 rear tires were REALLY loose and he had to tighten the wheel nuts a lot. Could this have been the cause of the problem?
I'm going to take it out later and check it out.

loose tires means loose hexes, you could have spun the hex in the wheel, or let one of the pins fall out. that sounds logical with your description of the problems. take the wheels off and examine the hex area it should be white and strait, if it has black stuff on it and kinda rounded you stripped it. also look for the pins. you may have lost one or didnt get it seated back in the hex when he tightened it back up. i would advise blue locktite on the wheen nuts so they dont back off again.

I totally agree with beason on this. You more than likely spun out the wheel centers. There's a possibility you can salvage them, but you still need to take all 4 off, check the hexes for pins, and see if the wheels stripped out.

He thinks they look good with dirt on them. Can you imagine Rolex??

What a repulsive thought. There's something that's just not quite right about that boy.

totally agree with beason and rolex, hope its that simple of a fix for yall. i know it sucks to break something pretty much right out of the box.

So far, this sounds like a good reminder to others who are new at this. Even right out of the box, get familiar with it by checking and tightening everything.
After run maintenance includes checking everything again.
Something as simple as a loose screw can cost you a lot of damage.

I'm thinking that the wheels were loose and the pin slipped out of the hex, well more like hoping than thinking. Cuz if that's the case then it's an easy fix. When you said that your son left something out when he told you what happened, I thought you were gonna say he said something like "well Dad, we had just jumped it from one side of the grand canyon to the other while it was on fire, with hazardous materials attached, and for some reason the darn thing just quick working"

lol can you tell I remember telling my Dad things like "I swear Dad, I was just slowly riding my bicycle in the driveway when all of a sudden the car window shattered, I guess it just got too hot, just glad I didn't get hurt"

Well, that's what it was. Two of the wheel hexes (I know what those are now!)were rounded. All 4 pins were still in. Bought 2 new ones and loctited the wheel nuts on. Back in business.
Why don't they Loctite these important things at the factory if they KNOW they are going to loosen? My son said he did go over the car when he was done looking for anything loose or missing. That's when he found the wheel nuts were really loose. Next lesson...Loctite. I don't have the time or desire to look over his work to make sure he did it right. If he screws it up by not checking everything then he suffers. Pain is a WONDERFUL instructor.
I want to apologize for not knowing all the parts in this Revo and not knowing about wheel hexes. It's just not possible.I'm sorry if that insults the intelligence of those in the know but I'm new to this! I need to learn as I go on this one. If that isn't the way things work on here then I'll quietly go away and try to find other sources. You guys are just so good at giving QUICK advice on something you have been doing a looooong time. I read as much as I can on here and ask silly questions because I need to learn....And I have! A lot! (except from the Troll thing maybe). I also bother my LHS. Asking questions. Watching them work. I can't just read the parts manual and know all.
That's it.

i am glad you got it fixed.i too am learing as i go and the guys here have been great.

no need to apologize for asking questions, we are here to help others who dont have the experience we do along. I'm glad it was an easy fix for you. I'm with you on the locktite, with all there RnD you would think they would be like "hey the wheels keep loosening up..." on the locktite, anything that screws metal to metal needs it. if it goes into plastic the locktite wont help, but you still need to watch them for looseness. when these engines hit 30k rpm they can shake just about anything apart with that vibration...

again dont hesitate to ask questions, if you feel its a stupid noob question then try the search, I'm sure someone has asked it at least 5 times before you.. :D

LMAO...I'm fully in favor of you leaving now.

And to think I supported you and your Trolls in this election. I'll have you know that the Troll police are on their way to your location as I write. Goodbye MR. ROLEX!!!!

And this will be YOU in just 1 hour and 18 minutes. Festering away with your new roomie!!!

nitronewb, I'm glad to hear you got things figured out. You don't need to be ashamed to ask questions about your truck. One thing I have noticed is none of us will ever know everything there is to know, because if we were to get it all figured out, a bunch of new stuff would come out and the process would start over. I see a lot of the most seasoned veterans on here asking questions about stuff that they can't get figured out. You are one of the few noobs that actually listens to what people say and don't ask for help but then answer with an argument. There are some new members on here that will ask someone who's been a sponsored racer fo4 15 years a questions, and then when they get an answer they argue with them about why they're wrong. You are the complete opposite, and it really shows. You're doing very good with learning your way around RC's, and if you left I think the forum would have lost a very valuable member.
