Hey all, I'm sending out payment on Friday to purchase grgbulldog's Savy 25. So I have a few questions/concerns regarding hop-ups and conversions. I been told that the stock Savy 25 is a nice rig, but what can I do to it to make it near bullet proof? Here is the link to his posting of the rig I'm buying:

I just hope that I'm happier with this rig vs. my GT2. I like the GT2 but it nickel and dimes me every time I take it out!

The 25rtr Savage was my first monster. Very durable as is. It does not need a thing to be durable. To make it handle is another story. You will be happy with this purchase provided the previous owner is a good mechanic.
I just built my 3rd Savage btw, they are addictive.

Thanks Scrogg, I was hoping to read that it's a good rig as is. I want something that I can take out and run in the grass along with beat it up a bit and not have to dump $40 worth of parts into it after running 1 tank.

The first rig I built from the ground up was a Savage X SS. I loved that truck and miss it sometimes, but I'm strictly brushless and 2 stroke gasser for now. I don't think there's a company out there that has a line of durable vehicles like HPI. I didn't think I would find anything more durable than my Savage, until I got behind the wheel of my baja. All I can say is "Wow!" It brings a smile to my face just thinking about how hard I've bashed that rig. You're definitely going to need a wheelie bar if it doesn't have one. Some people on here gave me some good advice. Never run without the body on until you get used to it. That Savage isn't like a T-Maxx or anything, it will do a backflip and be on its lid with the blip of the throttle. That's with the stock big block, and you've got a monster for a motor.

Well I'm glad to see that everyone enjoys the savy's as much as they do. You guys even got me excited just thinking about it now! Hmmm, I just may have a GT2 roller up for sale sooner than I thought, LOL.

You will. i started with a 1/10th gas truck, it was a dust collector after the Savage showed up.
You can expect to run the Savage for 1-2 gallons between major overhauls.
Granted, fuel goes fast in a BB engine! 160cc tank lasts about 8-9 minutes!
Those O.S. 30s can push just about any gearing you want. I seen one wheelie like crazy with 19/47 gearing. Stock is 15/49 for reference.
I see he has the dreaded Blue Thunder fuel in the fuel tank. Run something better and plan on retuning the engine from the factory settings.

Well the things i would recommend is getting RPM A-arms and center skid. That will help out a lot in your durability and the center skid will help protect you tranny, brakes and keep the under side a little cleaner. I would also recommend getting savage X bell crank or a aluminum one. That will help ALOT in your turning and handling. Also get a better servo for your steering and maybe a faster servo for your T/B. That and a lundsford turnbuckle kit and you'll be bulletproof.

You'll really enjoy having a savage. they are hella strong and can take a beating like no other. HPI really did a tip top job on the savage.
