well there is a video on ESPN sports center that says teh SEC defended the ref actions and that he was simply taking a defensive approach. My opinion the QB was of no harm to him and he stepped into him. But what the hell does my opinion matter.
It sure looked like he intended to get in the QB's way, but apparently he was just 'bracing' for the impact when he figured he couldn't get out of way fast enough.

Seems to me though the foot shuffle he was doing was more like he was trying predict where the QB was going and he stepped ahead into him instead of stepping back or to his left he seems more on the offensive then on the defensive.
