I drove past the Sonoma airport yesterday and stopped and took some pics of an old plain they have stored there. I thought the contrast of the grape vineyards was worth sharing.

Probably a Lockheed Electra (the kind Amelia Earheart got lost in).

EDIT:

I was wrong. I found the FAA site that runs registry inquiries. It is a Lockheed, but it's a PV-2 manufactured in 1944. Hell, it even gave me who owns the thing, their address and some other info. It's amazing what you can find on the internet.

The N number is NL10PV (on the second pic), enter 10PV in the N-Number inquiry.

From what I understand, it is a Lockheed of some sort used in WW2 as a sub chaser.
I will post the numbers in a bit.

Odd, that N number was registered to a Cessna that was exported to Germany in July 2004. Wonder why that number is on the Lockheed? The Cessna was also manufactured in 1999 (tad too young for that plane).

This Lockheed USN patrol bomber is one of those planes that just doesn't receive the publicity of such planes as the B-25/PBJ, A-20, B-26 or A-26. The PV series of USN planes were fast, carried lots of ordnance and were very effective in the Pacific Theater of Operations of WWII. They had more horsepower than the B-25/PBJ and top speed was around 300 mph. This plane has been in the LSFM for a number of years and Tom's been lucky to have seen her in the air, too.

Thats the one.
If you look into the records there are only 40 of them registered today. I took over 30 pics of this beast. Its not as large as it looks thus the power and speed from the two P/W engines.

I used that N number (10PV) on the site I linked to in my previous post. On that site it gives the registrant name, but I didn't want to post it.

HB, the N number is a unique number assigned to aircraft by the FAA. Kind of like a license plate, but you can find out about the aircraft in more detail than a car. And yes, there is kind of whois database on planes.

I knew it was a Lockheed, but I thought it was a Constellation. Whats the difference, aircraft trivia guys?

Looks like it's got either a bomb bay or something under the rear part of the wing and aft of the wing. Probably has more fuel capacity and bigger engines. Just a guess though.

I looked at that when I was there. The best I can figure is a fuel tank. Its looks like there was some kind of removable container there at one time. its not a Bombay because the under side is sealed.
