Solved the Overheating Problem!

The solution, buy a new engine, cracked the crankcase on this one, hahaha. Time for the engine replacement plan.

Yup and I learned a good lesson from this, make sure the remote and reciever are on, and the throttle is closed when starting. Right after breakin I was at WOT when I started it up and had to remove the lid and pinch the line while it was going full speed with the wheels off the fround. Oh yeah, I did that twice.

IMO that should not have cracked the crank case. Not to good for the piston and sleeve mind you and you do run the risk of snaping or breaking the con-rod at high RMP's like that but to me that seems like it was a weak spot from the manufacturer but what do I know?
 
If that wasn't the case then I have no idea. I just assumed that may have done it. After the second time it happened was when I noticed my excessive overheating. Even at 7 turns out it ran like it was lean.
 
yeah that looks real fishy to me too man. my 2.5 got ran over by a Chrysler Concorde (I estimate I was going 35 and the car was going 15-20) and the block turned out absolutely fine. The head was completely shot but the rest was perfect... even the carb.
 
That may have well caused the crank case to crack, but my point is that should NOT make a crank case crack. Yes that is not good for an engine but NO there is no way in hell even if it took you 30 seconds @ wide open throttle to get it shut off. For one reason or another I have had cars take off @ WOT and it takes me more than 30 seconds to get to them and I never have broken an engine. I would inspect your piston and sleeve and if they look to be in new condition then I would demand replacement from Traxxas for free. Now if your piston/sleeve are toast you are going to have a tuff time convincing TRaxxas to replace it. I am not a Traxxas adovcate but they have some of the best if not the best customer service in the industry and they will take care of you I am certian.
 
That's a damn good idea. I will call them next to see what can be done. At looking at the piston and sleeve it looks to be in perfect condition. Thanks HumboldtBlazer, I'll keep ya updated as soon as I can call them.
 
Nope, they said it was still an engine exchange. Told me a hard hit to the engine in the right spot could have cause the crack.
 
New Engine!

Well, the guy at the LHS just gave me the new engine and took the old one. Cost: $0.00...woohoo.
 
Thanks! Now I'm having other probs, will start a thread for that though...hehe
