Hi new to nitro rc, have been trying to tune my new nitro buggy. When i accelerate from stand still a lot of smoke comes from the exhaust. When i look across the area i have been racing across it looks like thick fog has set in. Please help i can't keep on breathing all these fumes in. How should i adjust my needle valves? Thanks.

It is supposed to smoke some, if it excessive then you are running too rich. How does it take off from a stand still? Is it sluggish, boggy, or does it take off good. How is the smoke at wot?

To start with, when it took off from stand still it used to die so i leaned the low-end needle. This improved the take off so it does not die any more, still can be a bit sluggish though. Don't like to lean things to much in case i damage the engine, don't really know how far i can go, how do you tell? Would leaning the low-end needle some more stop the excessive smoke? I'm running a Ishima Rave and my mate is running a Hot Bodies Lightning, my buggy has a hell of a lot more smoke coming from it than his.

The best way to tell is to get a temp gun. But if it is still sluggish on the bottom end and blowing out a lot of smoke you can probably safely lean the lsn just a little more. But you really should get a temp gun if at all possible, imo it's a must have tool for running nitro.

Nice one, cheers. I will have to get one. One other thing, fuel filters. I am guessing they go in between the fuel tank and engine but have been told to place in between the fuel tank and exhaust to displace heat. Where is the best place to put it? Thanks.

One between the fuel tank and the carb is a must. Some people will also run one between the pressure line from the pipe to the tank to help keep any contaminants from going through the lines back in to the fuel tank. I have never run one on the pressure line myself.

Just lean the HSN in 1/8th increments until it starts to stutter at high speed. Then richen it back up 1/4 turn. You can also buy lower oil content fuel. Some brands of fuel smell a lot worse than others. Byron's Race Pro and Trinity MHP are two that don't choke you out as bad as some.
