I've had a few guns for a while (they've been in the family), but am just now taking actual possession of them.

Can anyone on here help me get some kind of value for this one in particular? I did a search on the 44 Magnum's and there are a few different models out there. From what I can tell there's no model number on the outside of the gun. Where on the gun should I look to find some kind of model number?

As far as hand guns go, this thing is a beast! The metal is not solid black in color, but it's the color of black titanium if that helps tell which one it is. I also have the original reciept, it's from 1976 and it was purchased for $479.

It says this on the side:
Made in the USA
Marcas Registradas
Smith & Wesson
Springfeild, Mass.

I'd appreciate any info you can give me!

Several S&W models have been manufactured...those are very nice pieces. Contact S&W direct or take it into a gun shop and you'll surely get your answers. I have one of the Ruger 44 Blackhawks, 7 1/2". Awsome power. You could stop a car with it.

You have any pics? I might be interested.

Hey man,

The Serial numbers andmodel should be relatively easy to find on the upper part of the trigger guard on one side of the gun.

I've got lots of Smitty revolvers and they tend to hold their Value very well like 1911's and some other handguns. You'll get raped though if you sell it to a gunstore. I would reco you trade it or sell it on the net. www.ak-47.com is a great place to trade and sell arms. I use to be a regular their with lots of buds and could vouche for ya if you wanna sell it. "Titanium black"...hummm not sure what your talking about. If it's black from the late 70's it's probably blued. If your thinking dark, dark solid black finish your talking about a Parkerized finish which was very uncommon back then on Handguns.

It could easily be worth $350-$400.00+ on the open market if in excellent cond with 90%Blueing and a barell in great condition.

Edit - If you have a pic it should be relatively easy to indentify the model bro.

If you a thinking of selling it, you will get more money if you sell it privately (legally of course) If you try and sell it to a gun shop they will try to get it cheap from you. They want to clean it up and sell it themselves for top dollar.

MSLY - SEriously dude. THe only thing worse then selling your used guns to a gunstore is "trading in" you car to a car dealership:OMG:

Uh, I don't think Gil was trying to sell, just made a note of the original cost.

No, I'm not trying to sell it, but thanks for the possible offers. I'm really just wondering if it's worth much. Give me a few minutes and I'll get some pics for you guys.
30%, nope no serial numbers...

Here ya go:

Writing on side (no serial number)

The writing on the side you can't see because I'm having trouble with the pic....anyway it says just like I wrote above :
Made in the USA
Marcas Registradas
Smith & Wesson
Springfeild, Mass.

Also, why won't my pics post in the thread? I used IMG tags and everything....

Hmm, the code is correct, but only the links show.

Is there any writing (numbers) on the butt of the grip? It's odd that there's no s/n on it. I thought all guns had s/n's

Yeah, for some reason I can't post pics in any thread, just links.

Nothing on the butt of the grip.
I just noticed, if you flip open the revolver part, there's the number N304028, and underneath that there's an MOD. 29 2.
I'm guessing this must be the serial and model number! If it is, it's nice and hidden.

Found this info, and it does appear to be a Model 29 S&W

S&W Model 29 info

I'll try to find some more info. If S&W is like Winchester, you might be able to track down when it was made by the s/n.

Good deal man!
I wonder why S&W doesn't list that model on their site..

No idea. I'm having a hard time finding the 29 for sale anywhere. The 629 (stainless or nickle) seems to be the prefered models. I personally like rust blue over shiney anyday.

That heater would probably bring in 500+ if it's in good+ condition, depending on the rarity of it.

Finally found one, price is deal price, right at 500

Cept the one in the link has a 6.5" barrel and the one in the pic has a 8" barrel.

Hang onto it. The older ones that are in very good condition are getting harder to come buy. If it is in all original condition with all of the blueing intact without scatches it should fetch more $500. I've been offered much more than that for my Ruger, it still looks new. I've fired maybe 30 rounds through it and it's from the same era.

Thanks a lot, that's the info I was wondering about! I just didn't know where to look to find it.

It's in excellent condition, not a scratch on it, all bluing intact..
Hey, I've got a Ruger also! The Ruger is my favorite of the ones I've got. It's pretty badass. It's a Mark II, here's a link . This isn't exactly it, but it's pretty dang close.

Nice Ruger Gil, I wouldn't sell either of them. Although I'm known to trade a few for something better.

I love those rugers. My dad had one when I was a kid. My neigbor also has one. Dad's was stainless like your link. The neighbors is blued.

One of the straightes firing pistols I've ever coem across. No jams.. lots of shells threw it.

I liked ruger so much Ihave a bunch of their .22 rifles's I saw one for $99(composite) new at Bi-mart. It was $110 for the wooden one, then like $133 for stainless/composite.. They lured me in I have a stainless. lol

I am surprised to see so many active firearm users/owners on this site. It's good to know ALL of america isn't anti-firearm.

*edit* HAHAH I just remembered that stainless Ruger you posted, that was the first slide action to pinch my finger between my thumb and index finger. I was about 11.. thought I shot myself or something funny chit.

Also the first (but not the last) to eject a hot shell down my dads shirt.

That is the classic model 29 Dirty Harry 44 Mag. He used a 6 inch barrel I think. That was the hottest gun in the 70's thanks to the DH movies.

Yep and a sweet barrel length for a mean arse round. I can't stand 44Mag or 357Mag in a short barrel:no_commen

Nice pistol Gilbe........unless it was Illegally removed their has to be a Serial number on the revolver somewhere. It should be with that writing "on the side". I would take remove the grips and check to c if they put the Serial# their on the frame.
