I finished assembling my T-Maxx Saturday afternoon after adding the FOC kit and a new Hitech HS-645MG steering servo. Before I took it out I made sure that the truck moved freely and that all of the linkage settings were correctly. Thankfully I did this becuase my breaks would not have stopped the truck becuase I didn't have them tight enough.

It was great the Maxx started right up. I grabbed the controller and touched the throttle. The response seemed sluggish. I am not sure if its the servo or if the engine was loading up a little bit. What are the default carb settings for the TRX .15. I can't seem to find my manual any where. After doing a minor adjustment on the carb the temps were around 300-ish.

From a dead stop sometimes the truck would take off leaving a rooster tail other times it would barely go at all. Some times it would hit 2nd gear other times it wouldn't. I am guessing but it was almost like it was reving too high and the clutch wasn't engaging soon enough.

As I mentioned without the engine running I checked everything and there was no binding anywhere. What does the slipper clutch do? I tighten that all the way down and then backed it off about 1/8th of a turn. Is this too tight?

I managed to put about 5 tanks through before I had to call it a night.

I plan on purchasing a new engine for my T-Maxx. I am looking at the OS .15 CV-RX with 10ER rotory carb. The LHS has it on sale for about 120ish. What clutch would you recommend? Also should I stick with the 72 teeth spur gear and the stock clutch bell or should I adjust my gearing now that I have a FOC? Also would you suggest that I purchase a new flywheel? Will the stock engine mounts for the TRX .15 work for the OS engine? From talking to Candman it sounds like I will need to cut the crank so it will fit the T-Maxx. That will be no problem becuase I own a Dremel. Does someone make a coversion kit so I could use the EZ Start system with the OS engine. I am still deciding if I want to stick with that system. I just purchased a starter box for my NTC3 becuase I was sick of the PS. I think I will feel the same after a little while with the Maxx.

TIA.

EDIT: I am also looking for a new header/pipe combo since I cracked my stock pipe this weekend. I was thinking about the AE tune pipe but I am not sure which one. What is the part number? Would this work OK with the stock header?

All right that is a lot of stuff there, lets see if we can knock some of your questions out:

1. Your LSN might be too rich. I am not sure of the factory settings- try the pinch test. Pinch the fuel line and see what happens. If the engine runs for 5 or more seconds before dying, you are too rich. If it dies before 2 seconds, you are too lean.

2. If you can find factory settings, try 3 turns out on the HSN as a general guide. Tune from there. Use a temp gun if you have one to help with the process. 300 is TOO HOT. You will be getting that OS sooner than later with those temps.

3. Slipper is set right. It is desigened(I believe) to slip(hence the name) so you don't fry your tranny gears under torque or from landing jumps. You might want to check and make sure that all your little holes are filled with friction pegs. I think the old ones only have a peg in everyother hole.

4. The OS- I think you can use the TRX clutch that comes with the pro.15 on the CV-RX, someone correct me if I'm wrong. You don't need to change the clutch bell, but it can be fun to try different combos to find the one that meets your running needs. You can purchase a vented flywheel, but it is not a necessity. The stock engine mounts will fit. I hated the EZ start POS, so I ditched it for PS and have never had any problems with it(I run a fantom).

I would get this AE pipe

with this header

hope this helps

I found that good engine replacement is the sirio tx-18 and the recomended pipe. Allot more hp than the trx 2.5.
The .21s are having trouble pulling away from mine.

sirio tx-18
sirio pipe
rpm everything
mip cvds, all 6
aluminum bulks
rrp double slipper
plus more

Weekend before last a hyper 21 was the only one that could pull away.

hey strecth what to you think about the flimsy RPM shock towers? They have so much flex.

I hadn't really noticed, got a set of the aluminum shocks. So far so good.......

I have 1/8 scale shocks and I can bend my shock towers like 3 inches each way. Can you see if yours does that so I know if I got a sof pair or not?

.........mine won't move more than a quarter of an inch or so and it takes alot of force to move them. Are you talking about the shock towers or the body mounts?

Sounds like to me that you need to adjust the LS needle.

Do you think that will fix my RPM shock towers huh? I just might give that a try.

I was answering the other guys question and as for you, send it back to the company or go to your LHS and ask for a replacement.
You could also try some aluminum stock towers or something too. Maybe you got some wird whacked out bendy RPM one.
