I remember reading somewhere, that the only difference between the Slayer trans and the Revo one, is that the Slayer has taller gearing due to the smaller tires. If this is true, would the Slayer trans be better for you BB guys?
 
Well the way I see it has the same tranny as the Revo 3.3 but a lower gear ratio meaning larger Clutch or Smaller Spur Gearing and it will do 5 mph faster then the Revo. But with this said the Revo at the same speed will handle better because of the larger wider tires on a dirt track. They do share the Revo suspension which is awesome and nothing like it in the R/C world. I own a Revo and one of my next R/Cs will be a Slayer. I bought the Slash VXL instead of the Slayer so I can play in the Winter with sealed electronics but next spring I will probably have a Slayer in my collection of R/Cs

Gear Ratio (1st Gear):
15.75:1
Gear Ratio (2nd Gear):
10.05:1

Revo Gear Ratio

I'm talking strictly about the trans. I'm thinking a Slayer trans would be better in a BB Revo vs the stock Revo trans, just because of the gearing. It would give it a little more top end, and help keep it shiny side up on launch.
 
You're right schrode.
It has a higher ratio by way of a taller final drive set. The output gear is actually over driven by a larger gear. The larger gear doesn't fit in a revo case though....at least not the ones I have. You'll have to double check case numbers to see if they'll fit in yours.
I ran a slayer trans in an 18tm powered revo just for fun and it actually got along pretty well.
If used for a big block revo you would definitely have to go with steel for first and second gear.

I'm not looking for me, I don't have a Revo, I was working on a Slayer and it made me think about it. I remembered reading about the different gearing when I read someones Slayer to Revo conversion.
 
That was probably my thread, but it would be a good idea for a bb revo. The only problem would be those pesky primary gears.
