Just thought I would use my new Canon EOS 20D to take some pics of my brother's Xray T1FK05 that he finished building. Still needs the motor and electronics but it's a beautiful kit. Wish I had this new camera to document the build but oh well. Next time there's a new kit in the family, I'll document it.

I'm a convert now a days. I got into the 1/12 electric scene and really appreciated the "science" in this type of racing. It's so technical ... pinion size, wheel diameter, rollout ... EVERYTHING determins who will last till the end. It's a race of who rebuilds the motors best and battery maintainance/runtime. Everything ties into each other. What I liked about the 1/12 scene was how these cars handled on the carpet. You can throw them into the turn and most of all, they teach you the art of throttle control. Gotta love it. I just wish I could just fill up and go like with the nitro's. That's the only setback for me.

this is my first dedicated electic touring car. my girlfriend bought me this kit for my birthday. she still can't believe that i have to invest another $600 just to get it race ready. she can't wait to see this puppy run.

see diver thats almost exactly what i dont want. i want something that i can use a proven setup on, tweek it to my liking. throw in the horsepower and go. i really just enjoy running the car. i dont mind maintainance, or doing things right. but that level of tweeking just isnt for me. i can certainly appreciate it, but ill do so from across the parking lot while filling up my gas tank :classic:
and sl0eg1n, hold onto that one. any girl that buys you an rc for your bday is a keeper.

Yeah, she's also the one who got him his first Nitro as well! She almost regrets it because now that we are racing, where one goes, the other follows. 2 brothers with the same r/c addiction ... makes her wish that we never got into it sometimes. LOL.

at least its rc's instead of bars and strip clubs. she doesn't know how good she's got it, if her only competition is a toy car.

no harm.

id rather waste my dollar bills on scratch off lottery tickets than on a woody i gotta take care of myself. (never been to one in my life, and dont intend to either)

$600 is for the following electronics:
4 matched battery packs @ $45 each
3 19T motors @ $50 each
1 Speed Controller @ $160
1 Digital Servo @ $100

the only tweaking needed is calculating rollout for the track. there is also no headache and frustration of flaming out right before the start.

Diver couple issues with your pics,
1) You are too close to the subject
or
2) You dont know how to focus
or
3) You are very good at focusing and are purposely focusing on specific parts to further enhance the Oooo/aaaaah factor

If 1 or 2 you may want to try the following:

-Increase your f-stop keep same distance (increases focal length...lose depth of field)
-Keep your current f-stop but move further away from the subject and zoom in (keeps depth of field AND increases focal length)

-back on topic-

very nice..almost makes me want to get back into electrics

I know what you mean Rob, it's those damn Focal points (there's 9 of them) that are built into the camera. Still trying to get around them, even in Macro mode. Still learning the camera though. It'll get better. This is why I was never a real fan of the "automatic cameras" when they started coming out back in the day. I always went for manual settings. The only difference is now is that I gotta relearn everything I already know because the camera has more buttons and "doo-dads."

Give me an analog SLR and I'll get rid of the prob without even having to take my face off the viewfinder to look at a screen. AAARGH!

Sure there is. It has a switch that says AF or MF. You have to get the lense at the setting you want first (zoom setting) then switch to MF and start focusing. Then again, the lenses that come with the package are pretty much like the rubber tires you get with an RTR. They'll get you going but that's about it. I'm already looking at some other lenses that are more suitable to my needs. Not this "mickey mouse" crap they included with it.
