RC Driving Style
i had just warmed it up after some transmission work, and i was driving it around the yard very slow. it all of the sudden quit with a hard whack. it is not the connecting arm, i have checked that. the engine is fairly new, only about 1 gallon of fuel ran through it. every time i try to turn it over, it sounds like the piston is hitting on the cooling head. i have removed the head, placed my finger over the sleeve, then turn it over. it did not make the clicking noise then. i have no clue what this could be, and it makes me pretty mad because something is always broke on this thing and i hardly ever drive it. thanks for your help!

Have u tryed the compression test? Try that, when you say connecting arm do u mean the pistons connecting arm?....Post when you tried the compression test

it has good compression. yes i mean the piston connecting arm. thanks

is that a major problem? what will i need to fix it? thanks

Look inside the bottom of your mill and see if the bearing is toasted. You will see little parts of it scattered around the inside or protruding out the edge of the conrod. Use your finger and turn the flywheel a bit to see if there is any play.

If it needs to be replaced you may be lucky and only need to get a new bearing. usually well under $20.00. Do a complete tear-down of the engine including the front bearing and methodically wash and flush all the parts with DA to remove any metal flakes.

Check the piston and sleeve for scaring. Usually this wont happen. If you see scratches in either the piston or sleeve you will need to replace them. Inspect the inner aria of the rod where the bearing sleeve sits. If it is damaged you will need to replace it.

Flush everything a second and third time and even a fourth time and put it all back together. If you only needed to replace the bearing run it a bit rich for a few tanks but a complete brake-in isn't necessary. If toy replaced the piston and sleeve as well got through the entire brake-in cycle.

If you have any questions take detailed pics and we will help you.
