Hell yes! I love that. Beason needs to go back to work for nasa so more stuff like this will get posted...

Well that's a once in a lifetime experience.

Speaking of... my in-laws had a hot air balloon land in their backyard today. Not sure which is cooler...

I'm back with nasa/lockheed now. ill see what i can find.

Did anyone watch the launch thursday? anyone see the huge chunk of foam fall off??

That was by far one of the coolest things i have seen in a long time.
Thanx a bunch for posting

nah, it wasn't what they promised, and the drive really sucked. I prefer my 2.8 mile drive any day.

Sweet congrats Beason, I'm willing to be you have one of the cooler jobs on hear.

yea went back to the same contract i was supporting. they just won the rebid so we are bringing up a new building. found out the other day, the astronauts will be visiting often, they have to try on the clothes before we pack them.

may be headed back to florida soon, we have to pack up the equipment there to ship it here.

we lost a chunk of foam on this last launch, but nasa says that they were high enough it shouldnt have caused any problems. even though they were doing 4700+mph at the time.

you can see the chunk come off and bounce down the belly at the 3:50 mark here.

This is Discovery as it approched the ISS. One of the astronauts took this picture and uploaded it to flickr from ISS.

you can clearly see the MPLM (the big silver canister) the contract i support packs this module. we pack the special cabinets that fit inside it here on earth with whatever supplies they need, then load it into the bay.

you can also see the rack. Items that can be exposed to space are mounted on this rack. We design and build the brackets that are used to mount whatever they need to send up, to the rack. we also do cad and thermal testing of these as well as other structures we build.

You can also see the arm, and the dock that is used to dock with ISS. On earth, that arm doesn't have enough power to lift itself, but in space it lifts items weighing tons

here is the belly of the beast. as they did the flip before docking so ISS could check for damage.
