my truck every once in a while will shut off when i let off the throttle
I'm not sure much about the tuning of nitro motors
anyone can help me figure out what it is?
 
Try turning the idle up little by little to see if it helps.. more than 1 1/2 turns will be too mush though
 
will do once i get a glow igniter.. just took the whole ezstart off and its a pain with a pull start
 
Pull start is a bad idea brother. I went through 6 pull starts until I finally said "f this". Keep on there what you got and if you want to start it even and easier way, invest into a starter box...

Now check your throttle trim when the truck is completely warmed up, make sure its completely turned down and make sure your engine is running at the temp it loves to run. The nitro motor will shut off when you release the trigger if its not warmed up properly. Now I'm not talking about 10 or 20 degrees, I'm talking about 40+ degrees. That'll make a big difference.

My new os .21 for my race buggy would shut off after releasing the trigger, come to find out I was running the engine at 180 when she was comfortable at 220-240.

If the engine is running at the temp recommended, the trim is turned all the way down and it skill keeps shutting off when you let go of the trigger... then turn your idle up a bit. We are talking one hr increase which is about an 1/8 of a turn clockwise. Your idle screw is right underneath the hsn screw under the throttle body.

I prefer my pull start, once the rig is tuned properly it will not be that difficult to start, just don't yank on it like it's a lawnmower and it will last, short quick pulls is all you need. I am on my original pullstart that came with my Savage SS which is about 8 years old now. Also, I know of no starter box that will work on a Savage, so that's not an option for a Savage.

Your problem sounds like an impropper lsn adjustment, or the idle needs to be turned up. Take off the air filter, look down the neck of the carb, with the truck OFF, apply the brakes, make sure the barrel stays open 1-2mm at the most, if it closes all the way turn the idle screw clockwise while still holding the brake on until it is open 1-2 mm. If it is not closing all the way good chance your low speed needle needs adjusting. If it is too lean your temps will be very high and the truck will starve for fuel, if it is too rich it will bog and choke on fuel. If you don't have a temp gun I highly recommend you get one, it helps tremendously with tuning.
 
i have a little traxxas on board temp gauge and i know its not lean for sure, now that i think about it, it might be a little too rich cause i always preferred to run it more rich than lean (it'll last longer)
once i get an igniter and a couple other things for it I'm gonna tinker with it

oh and the pull starter I'm using, came off a tmaxx 2.5r when the it first came out and its original string and everything
 
Mine was doing this and it ended up being that I had accidentally run the engine without the air filter and ran sand through the engine. I took the cooling head off and found a neat little pile of metal shavings on top of the piston head. The sand got between the piston and it's sleeve and shaved it down so that it lost compression. It wouldn't idle and would die when I let off.

Idk if that's what your problem is, but it might be worth checking
