I have had my savage for about three months and I just stripped out my second spur gear is that normal?
Do they make a metal spur gear?

No, it is not. The usual culprit is poor gear mesh. Your engine mount screws (the ones that hold the engine mounts to the chassis plate--not the ones that hold the engine to the mount) are probably loose allowing the engine to pull away from the tranny. As you gun it and that mesh opens, the clutch bell tends to eat the teeth off of the spur.

My recommendation is to first get your mesh set properly and tighten the engine mount screws down (make sure you are using some blue loctite on those mount screws). Give it a run or two and see how that works.

As for the metal spur gears, I'll have to look them up. I'm pretty sure they exist, just have to find them.

If you need to know how to set the mesh properly, just ask.

I will try that if you can tell me the best way to set the mesh that would help me out.
Thanks

1. Loosen the engine mount screws and move the engine away from the spur.
2. Take a piece of paper or one thickness of plastic (like from one of the bags that your spare parts might come in) and place it between the spur gear and the clutch bell.
3. Move the engine back towards the spur gear so that the clutch bell gear compresses the paper/plastic against the spur gear.
4. Make sure the engine is square to the gear and tighten the mount screws.
5. Pull out the paper/plastic and you should be good to go.

Another good thing to use would be a piece of aluminium foil. It's a good thickness, and you can see the mesh pattern clearly, as the aluminium marks well.
