Since I installed my PICCO I have been having a hard time adjusting my shiftpoint. Upon opening my tranny I found my center diff had leaked. I have replaced the leaking gasket (broke another one in the process) and the internal clutch. What cleans dif oil best? Is there anything else I should look into since the manual says you shouldn't lube anything?

What cleans dif oil best?

Awww man I feel your pain cleaning up diff oil is a Pain! only thing I have found that works is krud cutter but I don't think I would use it on plastic its tough stuff!

Hope you find the answer!

meh... i had a similar problem. simple green works a little. takes a lot of it... but it does the job.

i haven't tried it... but i'm thinking goo be gone would work nicely. check it out.

I got the tranny all cleaned last night with a little dynomite motor cleaner and a tooth brush (I hope my wife doesn't notice it was hers-hehehe).
I put new seals and dif oil then put the dif back together as I tightened the everything down the dif oil squished out along with the seal which I promptly cut in half by tightening the screws. I replaced that seal with RTV and all is well I hope.

While putting the tranny back together I found out that the rear breaks had overheated and melted causing a whole set of other issues. So those are gone now and I hope all my other troubles...

how often do u take your revo all apart to find these problems? i just got mine and i dont dare take it apart yet.

whenever you need to...

only way you're going to learn how it works and what makes it tick is if you tear that sucker apart.

Agreed!
Its a little intimidating the first time but remember exploded views are your friend!
Take it apart and can't remember how to put it back together? No problem!

they say the best oil for the center diff is 400k(400,000)... i couldnt find it at my lhs so i got 100k. but my rear brake hub had melted too. i had to buy the whole kit again $15. but you can get just the hub or disk's at tower hobbies. some guy at revo-world makes alluminum ones or steel? they look tough though. i feel like just putting some thick grease instead of sylicone or whatever diff oil is... maybe like that it wont leak out that soon.

Don't do it. There's a reason it's not done that way in the factory. It's too thick for a small gear housing. It will just slow you down, and heat up your engine with the extra load.

I use 300 in mine. I usually go over the truck after a night of racing or bashing but sometimes I go over it when it's just not acting right. Like last night when my tune was crap and found out my head screws had come loose.

If you just got your truck there won't be many issues for a while. And if you inspect it after every time you run it, you will have even less issues in the future.

I've had my truck for a couple years now and well I used the approach if it isn't broke don't fix it. But as time passes things wear out, screws vibrate and things are overlooked then you end up finding these issues that drive you insane. All part of the learn ing curve.

VM Naptha is a great solvent for silicone diff oil, safe for all of the plastic bits just keep it off of orings. You can buy it at home depot or the like for about $5 a quart
