I bought a 3.3 S-Maxx a few weeks ago on craigslist and I have the truck tuned nice but I can't figure out the best way to adjust the shifting. When I first got it it was always stuck in first gear. I took the transmission apart and cleaned everything to make sure there was nothing in there that was causing issues. (The guy I bought it from said it needed to be rebuilt) Anyway I put it back together wrong I put the shifting section in backwards so it was still in first gear. Ripped it back apart and flipped it around and loosened it a little bit and now its stuck in second. My question is when I go to tighten the screw down how far should I turn it? 1/8th a turn each time or larger turns?
 
If you're referring to the shift point, look at it like a clock, and adjust it one hour at a time.
Just like a clock, if you move it one hour clockwise, it will now be one hour later. Counter clockwise and it will shift earlier.
A perfect tune is a must for proper shifting.
 
Thanks.. I put my needles to the Traxxas recommended settings and it was running a little on the rich side. Once I leaned it out a tad it seems to be running really good. it has a good top speed but it doesn't have a lot of take off power which is why I am assuming it is in second gear. When I first got it it seemed to have a lot of take off power but horrible top speed which is how I arrived at my current assesment :)

As in the acceleration is slow off the line?
 
Clockwise or anti to lean the lsn ? I forgot mine needs a lil tweaking . Cheers.

I did a 1/4th turn from tight for the slipper. I will try a couple things this weekend to see if I can adjust it. I started with Traxxas's needle setting recommendations for idle, HSN and LSN. I have leaned out the HSN but have not messed with the LSN.
 
make sure you tighten the right screw that holds the internal shift gear to the shaft... the screw that is at the angle is the one that changes the shift point.. I mixed them two up the first time I ever did it so it wouldnt hurt to make sure you did it right... hope this helps or gives you an idea on the right track.
