i was wondering what the best way to cut out the hole in my shell for the engine to fit thru ? how do u guys do it ?

for me I used DREMEL to cut out the holes, But if you don't have you can electric Drill ang buy some porting bits.

In my onroad nitro car XTM XT2 chasis, and have a LRP ZR30 spec2 never make a big hole just to access for the glow plug or pullstart, just make holes on windshield, side window, and small holes at the back windshield serves as breather. But if your body cover touching on the cover that's another story, just try make some adjustment on the body mounts to have some room for the head heat sinker.

i use a drill bit to make a few holes, and than use a cutting bit to round out the hole/opening, than finish it off with sandpaper to make it smooth. this bit works great in my dewalt drill, and still gives me control of the shape i'm making.

make a pattern on your shell, so you have some lines to follow, and take your time !

if you go to my photo album you can see how well it works, look at my suburban lid, all the openings were done with this method

A utility knife heated with a torch works wonders...just clean up the edges with a dremel after.

The best method in my opinion is to purchase a good reamer and body scissors. Start by making a hole in the windshield and then cutting an opening. Once done with the hole then just use a nail file to smooth the edges.

I'm assuming you are cutting a hole in the shell for the cooling head. If it's on a relatively even surface you can use an olfa circle cutter. Go around and around with it until you are half way through. Use a reamer to put a hole in the center. Now use some lexan scissors to cut lines from the hole up to the score the circle cutter left. Make about 8 of them like spokes. You can then simply bent the pie section inward and it will snap off right at the circle cut line. Use an xacto blade for any clean up of the hole.

I've always used my Exacto knife. You have to trace over your shape a couple times with it but it works pretty well and gives crisp lines. For smaller holes the body reamer for sure. Myself I can't stand using the scissors. I just can't get a straight cut no matter how I try.
