This is certainly not a bad idea. But nimh's provide plenty of power for a radio system as long as the pack is of decent quality and charged correctly.

yes, but running a higher voltage, with regulation, guarantees a constant 6 volts, even as the batteries get flat.

I've heard that some receivers don't like too much voltage, and have been known to simply go up in smoke! so people often use voltage regulators.

the problem with this, is that the voltage regulator will generally need 1volt greater than the input voltage, than the output voltage, which means you won't have the best regulation trying to get 6 volts, from a regulated 6volt battery pack :)

but anyway, just my 2 cents :p
